INSIDE THE ALL-TIME SERIES
North Carolina leads, 5-1
HISTORY WITH THE TAR HEELS
This weekend's series will be the third all-time between the two programs as the Tar Heels won the first two. Duke's lone victory against North Carolina was its last matchup, March 9, 2019, in Durham as the Blue Devils picked up a 1-0 victory.
Before becoming the first head coach at Duke,
Marissa Young was an assistant at North Carolina (2014-15).
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA
North Carolina enters the series with a 12-19 overall record and an 8-13 mark in ACC play. The Tar Heels are 0-10 this season when playing on the road. North Carolina won both series during the ACC pod weekend against Boston College and Syracuse. The Tar Heels' series with Florida State and Georgia Tech were postponed. North Carolina has been swept by Clemson and Pittsburgh, while splitting with Notre Dame and Virginia.
SERIES WIN AT LOUISVILLE
Bouncing back from Florida State, Duke took three of four games on the road at Louisville last weekend. The Blue Devils dropped the first game, 2-0, before winning the rest of the series.
Senior
Jameson Kavel led the Blue Devils offensively with six hits, including two doubles, two RBIs and three stolen bases. In the circle, three pitchers recorded wins as junior
Shelby Walters led the staff with three starts for 12.1 innings. She and senior
Peyton St. George earned their 12th wins of the 2021 campaign, passing
Amelia Wiercioch's season-high 11 in 2018.
30-WIN MILESTONE
With Duke's 5-4 eight-inning victory on Sunday, Duke hit the 30-win milestone for the 2021 campaign. Prior to this year, the most wins the Blue Devils collected in a single season was 29 in 2018.
