DURHAM – Duke swimming and diving head coach
Dan Colella announced the incoming freshman class for the 2021-22 season. With the announcement, GoDuke.com will be highlighting all 13 signees in the coming weeks.
Margo O'Meara joins the Duke swimming & diving program after an extremely successful prep career. O'Meara dove for Westminster Christian Academy under coach Steve Braun and for Ripfest under the tutelage of John Wingfield.
"I chose Duke because I believe the coaching staff will push me in my potential athletically and help me reach my goals," O'Meara said. "I was also drawn to Duke's strong alumni network and connections."
A native of St. Louis, Mo., O'Meara made Missouri state history becoming the first women's diver to win four consecutive state diving championships at the Missouri Class 1 Girls Swimming & Diving Championships. She swept the competition all four years (2018-21). In addition, O'Meara was a two-time NISCA All-American and the bronze medalist on the 1-meter boards at the 2019 Junior Nationals meet.
In 2019, O'Meara was named to the St. Louis All-Metro Swimming & Diving first team. This past season, she was awarded the Westminster Senior Athlete of the Year to close her prep career.
O'Meara recently put her expertise on display as she competed at the US Olympic Team Trials, placing fifth in the synchronized 3-meter springboard and ninth in the individual 3-meter springboard.
In addition to diving, O'Meara also succeeded in the pool and on the soccer field. In 2020 she placed third in the 50 freestyle at the 2020 Missouri State Championships. As a freshman in 2018, O'Meara was named to the 2018 St. Lousi All-Metro Soccer Team and was the Elite Clubs National League AYW Spotlight Athlete.
Margo Elizabeth O'Meara was born on August 29, 2002. She is the daughter of Cathleen and Michael O'Meara. She has two younger siblings, Brendan and Keely.
