DURHAM – Duke wrestling head coach
Glen Lanham has announced the release of the 2021-22 Duke wrestling schedule. The Blue Devils will compete across five months, six states and the District of Columbia in a full season of action.
Â
"I'm very excited about the upcoming season," said Lanham. "It's great to go from five matches last season to 16 matches and tournament dates. A full schedule gives our guy's more opportunities to improve before the ACC and NCAA Tournaments. In addition, it will be great wrestling in front of a home crowd!"
Â
The season gets underway on Nov. 6, when the Blue Devils head to Charleston, S.C. for the Battle at The Citadel. The Blue Devils have long frequented the event and were last at it during the 2019-20 season. Following the trip to The Citadel, the Blue Devils send more wrestlers to the Mountaineer Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State on Nov. 14.
Â
Dual matches get started with a swing in the Hoosier State, beginning with the season-opening dual against Indiana on Nov. 20. The Blue Devils make their way north for the Boilermaker Duals the next day, facing off against Bellarmine, Northern Illinois, and Purdue on Nov. 21.
Â
December will be headlined by several exciting duals, beginning with Dec. 4 battles with Maryland and Drexel in College Park, Md. The Blue Devils follow that up with 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. showdowns on Dec. 5 against American and Hofstra in Washington, D.C. The month concludes with the home opener on Dec. 19 against The Citadel and Bloomsburg.
Â
The Blue Devils ring in the new year with a return to the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn., from Jan. 1-2. The team last competed at the event during the 2019-20 season.
Â
Dual match action returns on Jan. 13, with a 7 p.m. matchup with Appalachian State in Durham. The matchup is the final one before the ACC schedule begins, with a trip to Chapel Hill, N.C., to face the Tar Heels, as well as Arkansas-Little Rock on Jan. 21. The Blue Devils end the month with its first ACC home dual, hosting NC State on Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.
Â
February features four dual matches, beginning with a road trip to Virginia Tech on Feb. 4 and Feb. 9 at Gardner-Webb. The Blue Devils and Runnin' Bulldogs will hit the mats for the first time since the razor thin 20-19 win for Gardner-Webb on Feb. 5, 2020. The ACC slate concludes with home duals against Virginia on Feb. 12 and Pittsburgh on Feb. 18.
Â
Postseason action takes place in March with the ACC Championships on Mar. 6 in Charlottesville, Va., and the NCAA Championships in Detroit, Mich., from Mar. 17-19.
