Setting the Scene...
The 21st-ranked Duke women's basketball team (13-5, 4-4 ACC) is set to travel to Louisville, Ky., to face their third top-five opponent of the season as the Blue Devils will take on fourth-ranked Louisville (17-2, 7-1) on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 3 p.m.
The game will be carried live on ESPN with Courtney Lyle (PXP) and Carolyn Peck (Color) calling the action. It will also be aired on the Blue Devil Sports Network via WDNC AM 620, the Varsity Network app and www.GoDuke.com with Chris Edwards (PXP) on the air at 2:45 p.m.
What is Next?...
Duke will have another quick turnaround as the Blue Devils host Georgia Tech on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. The game will be aired live on ACC Network Extra.
A Look at Louisville...
Louisville enters the contest with a 17-2 overall and 7-1 league mark under head coach Jeff Walz. Hailey Van Lith (12.1 points, 3.1 rebounds), Emily Engstler (11.4 points, 8.6 rebounds), Kianna Smith (11.4 points, 36 treys) and Olivia Cochran (8.6 points, 5.4 rebounds) have paced the Cardinals on the season.
The Series with Louisville...
Duke and Louisville will meet for the 10th time in school history. The Cardinals lead the series 6-3 and the Cardinals have won four in a row in the series.
The two teams have met seven times in the last six years. In their last meeting, Louisville won 73-49 on December 9, 2020, in Durham.
The Blue Devils are 0-3 in games played in Louisville, Ky.
Taylor Misses Fifth Straight Game...
Celeste Taylor has missed five games since being injured at Syracuse on Jan. 9.
In the five games Taylor has been out, the Blue Devils have seen their offense struggle - hitting 39.6 percent from the field, 26.7 percent from downtown and averaged only 58.2 points. The Duke defense has allowed 64.8 points in those games as well. In the first 13 games with Taylor, Duke hit 44.6 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from downtown and averaged 74.7 points. The Blue Devil defense was allowing only 59.4 points with Taylor as well.
Over the last eight games, Duke has missed at least one student-athlete in each game due to either injury or health and safety protocols.
Miela Goodchild missed the Virginia game on Jan. 23 due to health and safety protocols, after starting the last five contests. She came off the bench against North Carolina and was rusty to open the contest.
Day-Wilson Tabbed ACC Freshman of the Week...
For the second time this season, rookie
Shayeann Day-Wilson has been named ACC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Day-Wilson helped lead Duke to ACC victories at Miami and at home against Virginia last week to move the Blue Devils to 13-4 overall and 4-3 in the ACC.
She averaged 12.0 points, 5.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals on the week, while hitting 10-of-12 field goals. Day-Wilson continues to lead all true freshman in the ACC in scoring (12.0) and assists (3.5).
On the road at Miami, Day-Wilson collected 11 points, a career-high seven assists and pulled down three rebounds. The 5-5 point guard hit 4-of-8 field goals.
Day-Wilson closed the week against Virginia on Sunday with a team-high 13 points, three assists, a career-high three steals and one rebound. She also hit 6-of-12 field goals.
The rookie has started each of the last four games since junior
Celeste Taylor was injured. Day-Wilson had to step up even more on Sunday with starter
Miela Goodchild out as well. Over the last four contests, Day-Wilson has averaged 12.0 points, 4.5 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 0.8 steals.

Jade Williams owns 107 career blocks and needs 24 rejections to move into a tie for 10th on Duke's all-time charts along with Mistie Bass (131).

Kara Lawson missed Thursday's contest with North Carolina due to health and safety protocols. Assistant coach
Winston Gandy served as the acting head coach.
• Louisville's Payton Verhulst is the daughter of former Duke women's basketball standout Robin Baker, who played for the Blue Devils from 1989-92. • Duke has dropped nine straight true road games against top-five ranked opponents. The last victory came on Dec. 22, 2013, at fifth-ranked Kentucky.
• Over her playing career at Tennessee,
Kara Lawson helped lead the Lady Vols to 47 wins against top-20 teams, 20 top-10 victories and nine top-5 wins. The Blue Devils are now 2-3 against ranked opponents on the season.

Miela Goodchild is one of only five ACC players that have drained 20 or more 3-pointers in league action this season -- Dara Mabrey (Notre Dame), Jewel Spear (WFU), Georgia Amoore (VT) and Cameron Swartz (Boston College).

Vanessa de Jesus recently notched a season-high 11 points against Virginia. She hit a career-high 7-of-10 from the charity stripe. Over the last two games, de Jesus has averaged 9.5 points, 2.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals and hit 5-of-10 field goals.
• Duke drained 3-of-14 three-pointers against Virginia.
Nyah Green (2-of-2) and
Jiselle Havas (1-of-1) hit the only treys off the bench.

Hey, I Know You...
Duke head coach
Kara Lawson coached Louisville's Haley Van Lith with USA Basketball 3x3 on two different occasions.
The duo won gold at the 2019 U18 World Cup and the 2018 Youth Olympic games. Louisville's Olivia Cochran was also on the 2019 U18 World Cup as well.
Louisville's Liz Dixon and Duke's
Elizabeth Balogun played together for the 2018-19 campaign at Georgia Tech, before the duo transferred to Louisville.
Balogun played two seasons at Louisville as well, before transferring to Duke prior to this year. She saw action in 57 games, while making 42 starts with the Cardinals.
Both Balogun and Blue Devil sophomore
Nyah Green joined the Blue Devils, after transferring from Louisville.
Duke's
Celeste Taylor played with Louisville's Haley Van Lith with USA Basketball at the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup in Bangkok, Thailand and the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup in Minsk, Belarus. The duo won the gold medal at both events. Louisville head coach Jeff Walz was the head coach of the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup in Thailand.

Since ACC action started, the Blue Devils have featured six different starting lineups in eight league games due to injuries and health and safety protocols.
Only
Elizabeth Balogun has started each of the ACC games.
Duke had the same starting lineup for the first 10 games this season. Eight different players have started at least one game this season.
On the Road...
On the season, Duke has collected a 5-2 record on the road, including a 2-2 mark in ACC action.
Shayeann Day-Wilson (11.8) and
Elizabeth Balogun (10.9) have led the Blue Devils in scoring on the road this year.
Duke is hitting only 28.5 percent from downtown on the road and 40.7 percent from the field, while averaging 67.4 points a contest.
Goodchild Stepping Up Big...
Over the last eight games she has played, senior
Miela Goodchild has seen her minutes go up as she has played 30 or more minutes in five out of the last eight games. Goodchild has averaged 13.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals over her last six games played. She has hit 44.2 percent from downtown during that stretch.
She missed the Virginia game on Jan. 23 due to health and safety protocols. Against North Carolina, Goodchild came off the bench since she was returning from health and safety protocols. She missed her first eight 3-point attempts, but hit her final three to close the game with 14 points.
Goodchild hit only 6-of-21 treys over the first nine games of the season. Goodchild recently collected her first collegiate double-double against Virginia Tech with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
