DURHAM – Duke Athletics hosted its first NIL Summit as a professional development experience for student-athletes Oct. 2-3, in the Blue Devils' ongoing efforts to help maximize NIL opportunities.
Attendees were joined by former Duke student-athletes currently working at INFLCR, Meta, Gondola, DigiSign, MoneyLion and more. Student-athletes were encouraged to share cutting-edge ideas, discover new interests and learn how to maximize NIL (name, image and likeness) opportunities to build their brands and amplify their voices.
Rebecca Greenwell ('18) and Peyton St. George ('22) currently work in the NIL space and were on-site as a resource. Greenwell is the Strategic Partner Manager, Student-Athletes & Sports Creators at Meta while St. George is an NIL Partnership Specialist with Teamworks/INFLCR.
"The NIL summit was an awesome experience as well as a powerful tool. When you have an environment of people all sharing the same goal of helping us as student-athletes, it creates an amazing energy. It was exciting being able to interact with so many resources and companies all at the forefront of their respective fields. You could tell everybody there was passionate not only about sharing what they do but about learning more from our perspective as student-athletes. Many of the sessions were less like lectures and more like discussions. One of my favorite parts was listening to the panel of student-athletes and hearing the encouragement from them to just get started because a while back they were in our exact spots." – Krew Verratti, Duke men's soccer
"Being on the panel was a great experience. I was very fortunate to be asked to be part of it by Rebecca Greenwell. She did a great job leading the group and starting discussions. There was a lot of contribution from the student-athletes and I could tell they got a lot out of it. It was more discussion based than a panel, but it worked out really well for everyone." – Eli Pancol, Duke football
