DURHAM – Duke cross country is back in action this weekend as the Blue Devils continue postseason competition on Friday at the NCAA Southeast Regional at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky.
MEET INFORMATION
- The women's 6K begins at 11 a.m. ET, while the men's 10K starts at noon ET.
- The top two teams and the first four finishers in the race not associated with those two teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, held Nov. 19 in Stillwater, Okla.
- Duke's women will compete amid a 39-team field, which includes ranked squads No. 1 N.C. State, No. 12 Virginia, No. 15 North Carolina and No. 28 Furman.
- On the men's side, the Blue Devils will take on 34 other schools on the 10K course. The field features five squads ranked in the top 30 – No. 7 Wake Forest, No. 12 North Carolina, No. 15 N.C. State, No. 19 Virginia and No. 30 Charlotte.

WHAT TO KNOW
- Dalia Frias comes into the meet after garnering ACC Freshman of the Year honors via her performance at the ACC Championships.
- Frias kept her outstanding rookie season going as she posted the fastest time of all ACC true women's freshman for the fourth time in as many meets. The Hermosa Beach, Calif., product clocked 20:28.4 to place 31st overall, crowning her ACC Freshman of the Year.
- Amina Maatoug also had an outstanding showing at the conference meet, racing to a fourth-place finish of 19:41.8 to garner All-ACC honors.
- The fourth-place finish by Maatoug was the highest by a Blue Devil runner since 2020, while Frias was the first Duke woman to take home Freshman of the Year honors since 2017. Both feats were achieved by former Duke distance standout and current volunteer assistant coach Michaela Reinhart.
- For Friday's race, the Duke men's lineup consists of Matyas Csiki-Fejer, Nick Dahl, Carter Dillon, Austin Gabay, Zach Kinne, Owen MacKenzie, Sam Rivera and Chris Theodore.
- The Blue Devil women will be represented by Emily Cole, Karly Forker, Dalia Frias, Katie Hamilton, Caroline Howley, Amina Maatoug, Ashlyn Ramos and Kelli Wilson.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Blue Devils turned in a solid morning of racing for at the 2022 ACC Cross Country Championships, competing well among a men's and women's field that featured a combined 12 teams ranked in the USTFCCCA Coaches Poll.
- Both squads finished seventh in the team standings, with the 29th-ranked Duke men totaling 181 points in the 8K race while the women's squad finished the 6K with 195 points.
- Duke's formidable 1-2 punch of Maatoug and Frias once again led the charge for the Blue Devil women, as the pair posted the top-two finishes for Duke for the fourth time in as many meets.
- Maatoug collected All-ACC honors and picked up her third top-five finish of the season, notching a sub-20 minute 6K time of 19:41.8 to finish fourth among the field.
- Frias was the next to cross the finish line, checking in in 31st place via a time of 20:28.4. Her time was the fastest of all true freshmen on the women's side, crowning her the ACC Freshman of the Year.
- Ramos (20:40.3), Hamilton (21:07.6) and Forker (21:09.1) rounded out the top-five finishers for the Blue Devils women, as the trio placed 44th, 60th and 61st, respectively.
- The Duke men showed strong pack running as the squad's top-five finishers concluded the race within 20 spots of each other.
- Theodore (28th) and Kinne (33rd) led the charge for the Duke men, running their respective 8K races in 23:32.1 and 23:38.9, respectively.
- Csiki-Fejer (23:42.1) and MacKenzie (23:42.3) finished shortly afterwards, going back-to-back at 36th and 37th.
- Gabay clocked 23:57.5 to place 48th.

A LOOK BACK TO THE 2021 NCAA SOUTHEAST REGIONAL
- Duke looks to improve on last season's performance at the NCAA Southeast Regional.
- The Blue Devil men matched their best finish as a team at the regional, placing sixth overall and tallying 167 points behind Wake Forest, No. 17 Furman, North Carolina, NC State and Charlotte. Duke also earned sixth place in the 2019 Southeast Regional.
- The women registered an 11th-place finish with 308 points.
- Graduate students Michaela Reinhart and Josh Romine paced the Blue Devils en route to earning all-region honors.
- Reinhart garnered her third All-Southeast Region honor and finished 20th with a time of 20:44.4.
- Romine finished in 20th at 29:53.2 – a personal best in the 10K. He improved his position among the field as the race progressed, jumping 21 spots over the final 5000 meters to secure his first all-region selection.
