Finesilver Brothers Claim Wins but Duke Drops Decision to Virginia

DURHAM – Despite victories by both Josh Finesilver and Matt Finesilver, Duke wrestling fell Saturday afternoon 30-9 to Virginia in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Blue Devils dip to 7-9 on the year, while the Cavaliers improve to 4-5 overall.
No. 14 Josh Finesilver was in a battle with No. 31 Jarod Verkleeren at the 149-pound weight class and the pair were knotted at 3-3 with only a few ticks remaining in the match. Fortunately, Finesilver saw an opening and attacked, pinning Verkleeren with 22 seconds left for Duke's first points of the match. Finesilver notched his fourth ranked win of the season with the victory.

A few minutes later, No. 16 Matt Finesilver added to the Blue Devil total with a 6-0 decision over Justin Phillips at 174 pounds.

Wade Unger continued his strong run of play and posted a great showing against No. 27 Jake Keating but fell just shy, dropping a 4-1 decision to the fifth year.

At 285, Jonah Niesenbaum was all square with No. 32 Quinn Miller heading into the final seconds, but Miller was able to record a two-point takedown to secure the 3-1 decision win.
Duke is back at home when it welcomes Pittsburgh on Friday, Feb. 18 for a 7 p.m. matchup. That dual will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra and will be the Blue Devils' senior day.
