Mike Adler were selected as the respective ACC Men's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week following their outstanding performances in a 2-0 opening weekend for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils kicked off 2022 with a 21-12 victory over Robert Morris and followed that with a 15-7 win versus Inside Lacrosse preseason No. 17 Vermont. The pair of wins pushed Duke's home win streak to 13 dating back to Feb. 1, 2020.
O'Neill paced the Duke offense with nine goals in the two games. Against the Colonials, the native of Bay Shore, N.Y., recorded a career-high six goals, including a first-quarter hat trick.
Two days later, O'Neill registered a hat trick in the second half to help Duke power past Vermont 15-7. The second-year pushed his career goals total to 54 and registered his 10th and 11th career hat tricks.
Adler was outstanding between the pipes in the 2-0 weekend for the Blue Devils. The veteran backstop make a combined 31 saves in two outings, allowing 19 goals and posting a .620 save percentage.
In the season opener against Robert Morris, the Florida native had 16 saves in a 21-12 victory. Two days later he made 15 stops and helped keep Vermont to just three second-half goals en route to the 15-7 win.
The Blue Devils held the Catamounts scoreless for 25:17 with Adler making seven saves in that stretch, allowing Duke to outscore Vermont 7-0 and pull away for the win.
Adler leads all active goalies in saves (619) and minutes played (3,030). He is 113 saves shy of moving into the top 25 on the NCAA all-time saves list. He needs 271 minutes to break into the top 25 in that category and 568 to break into the top 10.
Duke returns to action with another two-game set this weekend. The Blue Devils host Manhattan Friday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m., before welcoming Jacksonville to Koskinen, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. Friday's contest will be aired on ACC Network, with Sunday's being available on ACC Network Extra.
