Duke Advances Three Boats to C Finals at NCAA Championships

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Duke Second Varsity Eight finished first in its C/D Semifinal and each of the Blue Devils' three boats advanced to their respective C Final on Saturday at the NCAA Rowing Championships.

The 2V8 won its semifinal for the second consecutive season after doing so in the C/D Semis at the 2021 NCAA Championships. Duke and Syracuse battled down the course with the Blue Devils holding a 1.4-second advantage at the 1,000-meter mark. In the closing stretch, Duke was able to pull away and cross the finish line with a time of 6:42.344, besting a Syracuse boat that edged out the Blue Devils in the Grand Final of the ACC Championship two weeks ago.

The Blue Devils will take on USC, Syracuse, Rutgers, Oregon State and Boston University in the 2V8 C Final on Sunday at 8:46 a.m.

In the Varsity Eight semifinal that got the morning started, Duke trailed both Rutgers and USC with just 500 meters remaining. The Blue Devils wrestled their way in front of the Trojans, however, and claimed second with a time of 6:25.839. Sunday's V8 C Final will see Duke line up against Gonzaga, Oregon State, Rutgers, Syracuse and USC at 9:10 a.m.

The Varsity Four closed out the day for Duke with a third-place finish after the semifinal race was delayed due to lightning in the area. When the Blue Devils got out on the course at 12 p.m., they held a close gap with SMU and Penn at the midway mark before ultimately clocking a time of 7:30.480. The Duke V4 will kick off Sunday's action with its C Final at 8:22 a.m., when the Blue Devils race Oregon State, SMU, Syracuse, Penn and Gonzaga.
