DURHAM – Duke cross country is back in action this weekend as the team splits up to compete at two different meets on Friday, Sept. 16. Several members of the squad head to Charlottesville, Va., for the Virginia Invitational, while others travel up the road to Cary to compete in the Adidas XC Challenge.
MEET INFORMATION
- Down in Charlottesville, the Virginia Invitational commences with the men's 6K at 9:30 a.m., followed by the women's 5K set for 10:15 a.m.
- The Adidas XC Challenge gets underway at 5:40 p.m. with the men's 6K.

WHAT TO KNOW
- Freshman Anna Corcoran claimed ACC Freshman of the Week honors on Sept. 6 after turning in a fifth-place finish at the Elon Opener. The Arlington, Va., native was the second Blue Devil runner to cross the finish line, while her 4K time was the fastest among all freshmen.
- The Blue Devils will feature 22 runners competing at the Virginia Invitational across the men's and women's field – 10 women and 12 men.
- Emily Cole, Corcoran, Karly Forker, Dalia Frias, Hope Frost, Katie Hamilton, Anna Keeley, Amina Maatoug, Ashlyn Ramos and Kelli Wilson will represent the Duke women.
- The men's lineup features Rory Cavan, Matyas Csiki-Fejer, Nick Dahl, Carter Dillon, Will Dixon, Austin Gabay, Zach Kinne, Jared Kreis, James Lee, Owen MacKenzie, Sam Rivera and Chris Theodore.
- Zach Barry, Jack Kovach, Connor Wells and Beck Wittstadt comprise the Duke runners competing at the adidas XC Challenge.
- Cole and Dahl get their 2022 cross country seasons going after each turned in stellar seasons on the track this past season, culminating in USTFCCCA All-America honors in the 3000m steeplechase (Second Team) and 1500m (Honorable Mention), respectively.
- Friday marks the Duke debuts for Csiki-Fejer, Frias, Keeley, Maatoug and Ramos. The quintet open their respective Blue Devil careers with strong distance pedigrees from their previous stops and high school careers.
LAST TIME OUT
- Duke opened its 2022 campaign with strong racing as the men's squad took first (17 points) and the women finished runner-up (43 points) at the Elon Opener Friday night at the Elon Cross Country Course.
- The Duke women had three runners finish in the top-10 of the 4K race – Forker (fourth), Corcoran (fifth) and Caroline Howley (sixth).
- On the men's side, the Blue Devils collected five of the top-six placements on the 6K course, including a sweep of the top-three spots – Cavan (first), Lee (second) and Dixon (third).
- Six Blue Devil runners set personal bests at the meet – Cavan (18:07.3), Dixon (18:17.5), Howley (14:05.7), Turbes (15:07.5), Wells (18:22.4) and Wilson (14:29.3).
UP NEXT
- Duke closes out the month in Pennsylvania, as the Blue Devils travel to Bethlehem for the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh, on Sept. 30.
