Blue Devils Split Tri-Meet with Queens and The Citadel

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Duke wrestling split a pair of road duals on Tuesday, falling to The Citadel, 23-9, before rebounding with a 47-0 decision over host Queens inside Curry Arena in Charlotte, N.C.

Senior Logan Agin and sophomores Gaetano Console and Connor Barket led the way with 2-0 performances on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•   Agin opened the tri-meet for the Blue Devils with a 5-3 victory over The Citadel's Malik Hardy.
•   The Bulldogs responded in the following matches, securing four straight victories to pull away with the lead.
•   Console and Barket added in six additional points for Duke, but ultimately it wasn't enough to close the gap.
•   Senior Conor Becker and freshman Kwasi Bonsu each battled their Citadel opponents, but dropped in tight decisions, 2-0 and 9-6, respectively.
•   The Blue Devils bounced back in the afternoon against Queens, shutting out the Royals, 47-0, to close out the day.
•   Opening at 125, Agin put the team ahead quickly, registering a 19-4 tech fall, just 4:08 into the match.
•   Graduate student Jarred Papcsy pinned Suhaib Hatamleh of Queens less than a minute into the 141-pound battle to stretch the Blue Devils' lead, 23-0.
•   Junior Logan Ferrero added another six points with a 20-4 tech fall over the Royals' Easton Tobia at 157.
•   Duke was able to limit the Royals in the remaining five matches to conclude the road trip.

NOTES
•   Bonsu captured his first collegiate win, after registering a 16-4 major decision over Riley Kuhn of Queens.
•   Papcsy recorded the second fastest fall of his Blue Devil career, pinning Queens' Suhaib Hatamleh just 41 seconds into the 141-pound bout.
•   Junior Christian Colman saw action at 141 pounds in his season debut and finished 1-1 on the day.

UP NEXT
Duke returns to the mat on Monday, Jan. 1, opening a two-day stint at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn.
