Brennan O'Neill made it a clean sweep for the 2023 preseason All-America lists, garnering first-team recognition from the USILA as announced Wednesday morning. O'Neill was a preseason first-team pick by USA Lacrosse Magazine and a second-team choice by Inside Lacrosse.
O'Neill, recently selected to the United States National Team roster for the 2023 World Championship, led the Blue Devils offense in 2022 with 53 goals and 21 assists for 74 points. He ranked fourth in the ACC and 12th nationally in goals per game en route to garnering USILA All-America second team honors.
The St. Anthony's product enters his third season with the Blue Devils with 129 career points from 98 goals and 31 assists. He is on pace to become the fastest Blue Devil to 100 career goals, needing just two to reach the benchmark. A two-time All-ACC pick, O'Neill is one of four Blue Devils who won gold with the U19/U21 program in Ireland this past summer.
A native of Bay Shore, N.Y., O'Neill has scored at least one goal in 31 of his 34 career games and has a 20 hat tricks. He has scored at least five points in 11 games and registered six-plus goals three different times in 2023.
The 2021 ACC Freshman of the Year and two-time All-ACC choice, O'Neill's 98 goals in two seasons are 114 shy of the Duke career record of 212 held by Justin Guterding. He notched 45 his rookie season and registered 53 last year to give him 98 after 34 games.
O'Neill and the Blue Devils make their 2023 debut Saturday, Feb. 4 against Bellarmine. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m., at Koskinen Stadium.
