Jonah Niesenbaum is set to compete in the 2023 NCAA Wrestling Championships at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla., with the first round beginning Thursday at noon.

Niesenbaum will make his first career appearance at the NCAA Championships after compiling a 25-4 record on the year and clinching an automatic bid with his second-place finish at the ACC Championships on March 5.

The Blue Devils have had at least one wrestler qualify for the NCAA Championships in every year since 2009.

HOW TO FOLLOW

OPENING MATCH
Niesenbaum, ranked 17th nationally, earned the No. 19 seed in the heavyweight bracket and will face No. 14 AJ Nevills of South Dakota State in the opening bout. Nevills was ranked 14th in the latest InterMat Division I heavyweight poll and holds a 19-6 record on the year. Nevills is no stranger to the national event, making his fourth career appearance and second consecutive trip with the Jackrabbits.

LAST TIME OUT
Niesenbaum is coming off a second-place finish at the ACC Championships at Reynolds Coliseum on March 5.

The Allentown, Pa., native earned the top seed in the heavyweight bracket and automatically advanced into the semifinal round to face Jake Slinger of Pitt. Niesenbaum defeated Slinger in a 3-2 decision to advance to the finals.

Niesenbaum met NC State's Owen Trephan in the championship match but fell in a 7-2 decision to claim the silver medal.
