WALNUT, Calif. – Duke track and field turned in a strong showing on day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays on Friday as the Blue Devils registered five top-five program marks along with a quartet of event wins across the two meets.
MT. SAC RELAYS
Sophomore Megan McGinnis headlined the Friday performances as she posted a pair of event wins in the collegiate sections of the women's 200m and 400m dash, respectively.
McGinnis opened her day in the 400m and put on a stellar display of running, clocking a personal best of 52.06 seconds to finish atop the 59-member field. Her time checked in at No. 7 nationally while also slotting herself No. 2 all-time in program lore. Later in the day, she grabbed her second first-place finish in the 200m behind a dash of 23.16 seconds.
Freshman Julia Jackson, also competing in the women's 400m, delivered a standout performance en route to etching her name into the program record books.
Jackson ran the fourth-fastest outdoor 400m time in Duke history, finishing her race in 52.73 seconds for a new personal best.
Chinenye Agina joined in on the record-breaking action with the graduate student turning in the best performance of her career in women's high jump.
Agina took on four different heights during the competition, clearing the first one on the initial try and each of the ensuing three heights on her second attempt. Agina bowed out with a final clearance of 1.78m (5-10 feet) – the best of the field – while also tying her No. 3 all-time program mark.
Senior Luke Jackson posted the fourth top-five program mark of the day for the Blue Devils – this one coming in the men's javelin elite.
Jackson turned in a career-best performance and catapulted himself up to the No. 3 spot on the Duke charts with a throw of 71.58m (234-10 feet) on his opening attempt, besting his previous best by more than a meter.
Charlotte Tomkinson took part in the women's collegiate 1500m race and collected a fourth first-place finish for the Blue Devils. The junior clocked 4:24.99 to finish atop the 30-participant field.
Graduate student Haley Rizek closed out an incredible weekend performance in the women's heptathlon with a fourth-place finish after totaling a personal best 5,612 points – No. 4 all-time in program lore and a 300-point improvement from her previous best.
Rizek turned in a pair of top-five placements, winning the javelin behind a throw of 48.61m (159-5 feet) while also placing fourth in the 800m race via a time of 2:16.89
Austin Gabay closed out day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational by turning in a top-10 finish in the men's 5,000m. The junior ran his race in 14:17.98, good for ninth among the field.
