DURHAM – Duke fencers
Christina Ferrari,
Stephen Kim and
Terence Lee have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2023 Academic All-District Men's and Women's At-Large teams, the organization announced Tuesday.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 22.
Ferrari and Lee earn the honor for the second consecutive year while Kim collects the accolade for the first time.
Ferrari posted another impressive performance as a junior and a co-captain. She finished the regular season 47-8 overall and captured an individual silver medal at the ACC Championship. She qualified for the NCAA Championship for the third year and finished 13th, just shy of All-America recognition. She excelled in the classroom as the ACC's Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was on the All-ACC Academic Team. As a co-captain, she helped relaunch the Fence for the Fight campaign that raised over $72k in honor of the late Elizabeth Beguinet.
Kim qualified for the NCAA Fencing Championship for the second time in his career and secured 10th on the national stage. In addition to his All-America honor, he placed fifth at the ACC Championship and posted a 39-17 regular-season record. He was named to the All-ACC Academic Team and earned a spot on the second team for All-Region.
A native of Hong Kong, Lee was one of the top saberists nationally. He captured an individual silver medal at the ACC Championship before a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Fencing Championship, the second All-America honor of his career. He played to a 31-18 regular season record and earned second team All-Region recognition to go along with a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team. As a co-captain, he helped relaunch the Fence for the Fight campaign that raised over $72k in honor of the late Elizabeth Beguinet.
