DURHAM – Miami (39-18) scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, to defeat Duke (35-21), 7-6 in the final pool D game of the week for both clubs. Junior
Alex Stone extended his hitting streak to 30 games with a solo home run to left field, while junior
Luke Storm hit two home runs on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior Jay Beshears hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning, 1-0.
- Miami responded in the bottom of the first inning, 2-1.
- Junior Luke Storm hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning, 2-2.
- Junior Alex Stone hit a solo home run to left center field in the top of the sixth inning, 3-2. Graduate Damon Lux singled up the middle to score Chad Knight from second, 4-2.
- The Hurricanes tied the ballgame in the bottom of the sixth, 4-4.
- In the top of the eighth inning, Storm hit a two-run home run to right field, 6-4.
- Miami regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth, 7-6.
NOTES
- Freshman Andrew Fischer returns to the lineup playing third base for the first time in a month. He was in the lineup last weekend against Miami as the designated hitter.
- Freshman Tyler Albright extended his hitting streak to 10 games on Friday.
- With stolen bases in the game, Giovanni DiGiacomo tallied his 16th stolen base of the season, while Alex Mooney stole his team leading 17th of the year.
- Junior Luke Storm hit two home runs on Friday afternoon, finishing the day 2-for-2 with two hit by pitches.
- Junior Alex Stone extended his hitting streak to 30 games, hitting a home run to lead off the top of the sixth inning.
