DURHAM – Following a vote of the ACC women's soccer head coaches, Duke sophomore
Kat Rader has been tabbed to the 2023 Preseason All-ACC team.
A total of 12 student-athletes were selected with Rader one of only three sophomores honored.
Rader, a product of Stuart, Fla., is coming off an impressive rookie campaign leading all ACC freshmen with 12 goals to go along with five assists for 29 points. She notched seven goals against ACC opponents and led Duke with five game-winning tallies. The 2022 ACC Freshman of the Year tied a Blue Devil freshman record with 12 goals, her 29 points tied for second on Duke's freshman charts and her five game-winners were tied for second as well. In the NCAA, Rader ranked tied for second nationally in goals (12) and first in points (29) among freshmen.
The ACC coaches also voted on the preseason poll with Duke being selected No. 5 with 126 votes, including one first-place tally. North Carolina received 10 first-place votes and a total of 166 votes to be selected No. 1. Florida State (146), Virginia (139), Notre Dame (134), Duke (126), Clemson (104), Pitt (103), Wake Forest (87), Virginia Tech (81), NC State (62), Louisville (47), Syracuse (35), Miami (24) and Boston College (20) rounded out the league.
Duke returns five starters and 15 letterwinners, while welcoming the No. 6 incoming class in the nation. The Blue Devils posted a 15-5-3 ledger a year ago under the direction of head coach
Robbie Church.
On Thursday, Aug. 15, Duke opens the 2023 campaign at home versus West Virginia with a 7 p.m., opening kick at Koskinen Stadium.
