DURHAM – The Duke volleyball team (6-2) makes the short trip to NC Central for a 6 p.m., contest Wednesday at McDougald-McLendon Arena. The match marks the first time a Duke team has competed on NC Central's campus since the 1970s.
MAKING HISTORY
- Wednesday's match marks the first time a Duke team has competed on NC Central's campus since the 1970s.
- The volleyball program played there twice -- 1971 + 1975 -- while the women's basketball program played down the road in 1977.
A PARTNERSHIP TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
- Duke and NC Central's volleyball programs partnered up to co-host an event at the Boys & Girls Club of Durham and Orange County last week ahead of Wednesday's historic match.
- The hour-long event began with a facility tour directed by Boys & Girls Clubs of Durham and Orange Counties CEO Jerome Levisy and director of resource development Andrew Borresen. After the tour, team members from the Blue Devils and Eagles conducted volleyball exercises around the gymnasium with club members and guided them through serving, setting, and hitting drills.
- Wednesday's match will also serve as a fundraiser for the B&GC.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SERIES
- Duke and NC Central meet for the ninth time in program history as the Blue Devils own an 8-0 lead in the all-time series.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- NC Central enters Wednesday's contest 1-6 overall and most recently dropped a 3-0 decision at Elon. The Eagles are led by Kamren Harper with 94 kills and Emmie Modlin with 91. Setter Bella Dearinger has dished 186 dimes while five different players own 40 or more digs, led by Loren Johnson with 107. As a team, the Eagles are hitting .175 percent while their opponents are playing to a .242 clip.
