NEED TO KNOW
• The 17th-ranked Duke women's soccer team (5-3-1, 1-1-1 ACC) will embark on a key two-match road swing that will start Sunday, Oct. 1 as the Blue Devils travel to Charlottesville, Va., to face Virginia (5-2-3, 0-2-1) at 12 p.m., inside Klockner Stadium.
• Sunday's match versus the Cavaliers will be aired live on ACC Network with Jenn Hildreth (PXP) and Lori Lindsey (Analyst) calling the action.
• Two of Duke's next three matches will be aired live on ACC Network (UNC on Oct. 8).
• The Blue Devils will remain on the road next week traveling to Pittsburgh on Oct. 5, before returning home to host top-ranked North Carolina on Oct. 8.
• Senior goalkeeper
Leah Freeman registered her fourth shutout of the season and 22nd of her impressive career in Duke's 0-0 draw against NC State.
• Over the last two seasons, Duke has lost six student-athletes that have gone on to play in the NWSL.
• Duke welcomed 11 newcomers to the 2023 roster as head coach
Robbie Church is in his 23rd season with the Blue Devils.

• Over the last five matches, Duke's defense has totaled a 0.40 goals-against average and notched four shutouts.
Leah Freeman owns three shutouts, while

• Senior
Nicky Chico is expected to see action in her 50th career match Sunday.
• Freshman
Mia Minestrella made her first collegiate start against NC State.

Kat Rader leads Duke with five goals on the season and she owns 17 over her short career. Since scoring goals in each of the first three matches, Rader has been limited to two goals over the last six contests.
• In both of Duke's home losses to 24th-ranked Southern California and 10th-ranked Notre Dame, the Blue Devils opened the match with a 1-0 lead.

Carina Lageyre posted her first two collegiate goals at Boston College in the ACC opener. She went on to be named ACC Offensive Player of the Week as Duke won 2-0 on the road.
• Lageyre's goal at the 2:51 mark of the first half was the quickest goal Duke has scored this season. It is the fifth-quickest goal in the ACC this season (Virginia at 0:50 vs. Radford; Virginia at 0:55 vs. VCU; and Clemson at 1:35 vs. Gardner-Webb).

Devin Lynch have connected for two goals off corner kicks this season (West Virginia and East Carolina).
• Duke scored goals in the first half in the first three games for the first time since the 2017 season. In 2017, the Blue Devils totaled goals in the first half in each of the first seven matches.
• In her first two seasons, when
Kat Rader scores, the Blue Devils feature a 12-2-1 ledger. She became just the sixth Blue Devil to register goals in each of her first three matches to start a season.

THE SERIES WITH VIRGINIA
• Duke and Virginia will meet for the 48th time in program history with the Cavaliers leading the series, 21-17-9.
• On the road in Charlottesville, the Blue Devils are 7-11-4, but Duke is coming off a 2-1 victory last season in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.
• Duke and Virginia played twice last season, once during the regular season at home and on the road in Charlottesville. Each team won on the opposing team's field.
• Head coach
Robbie Church owns an 11-17-3 record against Virginia all-time.
• The Cavaliers have narrowly outscored Duke 58-57 all-time in the series.

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
• Virginia enters the match with a 5-2-3 overall and 0-2-1 ACC ledger.
• The Cavaliers were unbeaten over the first six matches, but have gone 0-2-2 in their last four contests.
• Virginia has given up four of the six goals allowed this season over the last three matches and scored only one goal over the last four contests.
• Meredith McDermott has paced Virginia with six goals, while Maggie Cagle owns five.

• Moved Duke to 6-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the ACC.
• Improve the Blue Devils to 18-21-9 against the Cavaliers in the series and 8-11-4 in Charlottesville.

• Blue Devil freshman
Phoebe Goldthwaite will go up against her sister, Virginia senior Peyton Goldthwaite. The Goldthwaite's also have a sister, Baylor, at Wake Forest.
• Duke senior
Olivia Migli and Virginia's Alexis Theoret are good friends from club soccer with FC Virginia. Ella Carter also played for the same club squad.
• Virginia's Kiki Maki attended IMG Academy with Duke's
Dieynaba Ndaw attended.
• Duke's
Katie Groff played club soccer at NC Courage Developmental Academy with Laney Rouse and Peyton Goldthwaite of Virginia. Groff and Goldthwaite played indoor soccer together since they were 10 years old and spent every year together in club soccer following.

Baleigh Bruster played with Talia Staude at Tophat Soccer Club. Staude, Helen Symbas and Allie Ross also went to Westminster with Graham.
U.S. TEAMMATES FACE EACH OTHER
• Duke's
Carina Lageyre will face her former U.S. teammates Samar Guidry and Laney Rouse of Virginia. All three represented the U.S. at the 2022 FIFA Women's World Cup in Costa Rica in August.
IN THE LAST MEETING
• Last season, Duke and Virginia split its meetings with the opposing team winning on the road.
• Virginia received a goal in the 28th minute in the first meeting at Duke to take a 1-0 victory.
• In the ACC Tournament quarterfinals, the Blue Devils tallied a 2-1 victory, behind goals from
Michelle Cooper and
Kat Rader.
THE INJURY BUG
• In the Notre Dame match on Sept. 21, the Blue Devils lost their starting center backs --
Emily Royson and
Baleigh Bruster -- to injuries. Both were not on the pitch when the Irish rallied for a pair of goals to win the match.
• Senior
Olivia Migli was also lost late in the Notre Dame match with an injury as well.
• All three missed the NC State match on Sept. 24 and are listed as day-to-day.
• Senior
Katie Groff moved from the midfield to center back, where she started her Duke career, for the match with the Wolfpack.
RECENT MATCHES
• Duke's defense has been solid over the last five matches posting four shutouts during that span. The only blemishes were two goals in a span of 1:33 late against Notre Dame, after the Blue Devil defense was depleted with injuries.
• The Blue Devil defense has limited opponents to only two goals and a 0.40 goals-against average over the last five matches. Duke has outshot opponents, 80-30, in that span. Its opponents have only taken 11 shots in the first half in those contests.
ACC MATCHES ONLY
• Duke's two goals allowed in three ACC matches ranks tied for first in the league along with Virginia Tech.

Leah Freeman's 0.67 goals-against average is tied for first with Alia Skinner of Virginia Tech.
