DURHAM – No. NR/17 Duke fell to No. NR/20 North Carolina on Friday evening at the Taishoff Aquatic Center, following a back and forth meet. Heading into the final relay event, the Duke women were leading by four points, before finishing second and falling to North Carolina 152.5-147.5.
Duke's men's side fell to the Tar Heels 219-80 on Friday.
NOTEABLES
- The Blue Devils 200 Medley Relay team consisting of Ali Pfaff, Kaelyn Gridley, Aleyna Ozkan and KyAnh Truong finished second to begin the meet, clocking in with a time of 1:38.56.
- Sophomore Kaelyn Gridley solidified a first-place finish in the 100-yard Breaststroke, earning a NCAA B-cut time (1:00.31). Catherine Belyakov added to the list of points scorers in the event, finishing third with a time of 1:01.87.
- In the 200-yard Butterfly, Martina Peroni placed first with a time of 1:55.97, tallying a NCAA B-cut time.
- Sophomore Audrey Portello shaved nearly three and a half seconds off her season-best time in the 1000-yard Freestyle event. Portello finished second, touching in with a time of 10:06.42.
- On the men's side, Duke's Blake Johnson collected a second-place finish in the 200-yard Freestyle, clocking a time of 1:39.44.
- Pfaff collected a podium spot in the 100-yard Backstroke, finishing first with a time of 53.26. That mark earns Pfaff a NCAA B-cut time.
- On the men's side of the 100-yard Backstroke, Michael Jiang and David Chang finished second and third respectively in the event. Jiang posted a time of 48.58, while Chang clocked in at 48.94.
- Pfaff followed up her impressive swim in the 100-yard Backstroke, finishing on top of the podium once again. She collected another NCAA B-cut, this time in the 200-yard event, with a time of 1:55.91.
- Freshman Tatum Wall continued to dominate in the 50-yard Freestyle, finishing first in the event with a time of 23.07. Truong followed closely behind in third place with a time of 23.42.
- The dynamic Breaststroke duo of Gridley and Sarah Foley completed a one-two finish in the 200-yard Breaststroke, collected NCAA B-cuts for both their swims. Gridley touched in first with a time of 2:13.03, while Foley touched in second with a time of 2:13.47.
- In the women's 500-yard Freestyle, YiXuan Chang chased down North Carolina's Lily Reader, finishing in first with a time of 4:52.26.
- In the one-meter diving event, Margo O'Meara finished third with a tally of 279.60. O'Meara added a second-place finish in the three-meter event, tallying a score of 357.60.
- Graduate student Ali Watson finished third in the three-meter event, posting a score of 323.40.
- In the men's one-meter dive, Charlie Berman collected a third-place finish with a score of 318.98. On the three-meter board, Yannis Schattman and Seamus Harding Jr. tallied a first and third place finish respectively.
- Aleyna Ozkan collected a podium in the 100-yard Butterfly on Friday afternoon, touching in second with a time of 53.58.
- In the 200-yard IM, the Blue Devils swept the podium as Foley (1:59.61), Belyakov (1:59.67) and Peroni (2:01.37) all finished in order.
- In the 400-yard Freestyle, Duke's team of Pfaff, Chang, Wall and Foley, touched in second with a time of 3:20.47.
UP NEXT
The Blue Devils will conclude a two-day stretch hosting No. 8/2 Texas at the Taishoff Aquatics Center on Saturday morning. Diving is set to begin at 10 a.m., with swimming beginning at 11 a.m.
