DURHAM – Sophomores
Kaelyn Gridley and
Martina Peroni shined in the Blue Devils final meet of the weekend, breaking a pool record and school record respectively against No. 8/2 Texas at the Taishoff Aquatic Center.
Gridley broke her own school record in the 200-yard Breaststroke, clocking in a time of 2:07.91. Peroni broke her own pool record finishing three seconds faster than Texas' Campbell Stoll, touching in with a time of 1:54.01.
NOTEABLES
- In the one-meter diving event, Margo O'Meara and Ali Watson placed on the podium in both first and third respectively. O'Meara posted a score of 321.45, while Watson tallied a score of 286.65. Watson also finished second in the three-meter dive with a score of 340.65.
- Will McCollum finished third on the men's side of the one-meter dive, collecting a score of 350.55.
- The Blue Devils A-Team 200-yard Medley Relay team consisting of Ali Pfaff, Kaelyn Gridley, Aleyna Ozkan and Tatum Wall finished second to kick off the event, clocking in with a time of 1:37.32.
- On the men's side, Duke's A-Team 200-yard Medley Relay team consisting of Michael Jiang, Michael Volpe, David Chang and Milo Shue finished third with a time of 1:29.33.
- In the women's 200-yard Freestyle, freshman Tatum Wall tallied a first-place podium finish, clocking in with a time of 1:47.30. Teammate YiXuan Chang placed second in the event with a time of 1:50.14.
- Emily Lenihan and Madeline Meredith collected second and third place finishes respectively in the 100-yard Backstroke. Lenihan clocked in at 53.87, while Meredith touched in third with a time of 54.83.
- On the men's side of the 100-yard Backstroke, Jack Christian and David Chang occupied the first two podium spots in the event.
- In the 100-yard Breaststroke, Gridley swam away from the competition as she and Sarah Foley finished one and two in the event. Gridley touched in at 59.48, while Foley finished with a time of 1:01.24.
- Freshman Kalen Anbar touched in second in the 100-yard Breaststroke, clocking a time of 55.74. Andrew Li finished shortly after Anbar for third with a time of 55.96.
- In the 200-yard Butterfly, Martina Peroni broke her own pool record, finishing three seconds faster than Texas' Campbell Stoll, touching with a time of 1:54.01.
- Wall continued her podium streak with a second-place finish in the 100-yard Freestyle. She clocked in with a time of 49.43.
- Blake Johnson and Shue took home first and second place in the 100-yard Freestyle on the men's side. Johnson touched with a time of 44.49, while Shue clocked a 45.10.
- Freshman Molly Donlan and Pfaff collected the top two spots in the 200-yard Backstroke, as Donlan touched with a time of 1:55.38, while Pfaff clocked a time of 1:55.79.
- Jiang tallied a first-place finish in the 200-yard Backstroke, touching with a time of 1:44.81, while Chang finished third with a time of 1:47.38.
- For the second time this season, Gridley bested a Duke program record, clocking in first-place finish with a time of 2:07.91 in the 200-yard Breaststroke.
- In the women's 100-yard Butterfly, Ozkan touched in first with a time of 53.00, while Catherine Belyakov clocked in a time of 53.65 for third place.
UP NEXT
The Blue Devils return to the Taishoff Aquatic Center on Feb. 2, for the final regular season meet of the season. Duke hosts Queens University for senior day with diving beginning at 2 p.m. and swimming beginning at 3 p.m.
