AIKEN, S.C. – The ninth-ranked Duke women's golf program opened action Monday at the Old Barnwell Match Play with a pair of victories over 18th-ranked Florida State and Mississippi State, which was being contested at Old Barnwell in Aiken, S.C.

Anne Chen each collected two wins on the day to pace the Blue Devils. McMyler's wins came against the No. 2 (Julia Lopez Ramirez) and No. 30 ranked (Charlotte Heath) golfers in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
Duke defeated the Seminoles, 3-2, and closed the afternoon with a 5-0 win over the Bulldogs.
How It Happened – Match One vs. Florida State
- In the morning, the Blue Devils opened action against 18th-ranked Florida State off hole No. 10.
- Duke jumped out to hot starts on its final two groupings behind senior Phoebe Brinker and graduate student Emma McMyler.
- Brinker, who went off fourth, faced Madison Hewlett of the Seminoles and started quick by winning the first two holes.After winning holes No. 14 and No. 15, Brinker took a 3UP advantage.The lead grew to 6UP through nine holes, before Brinker closed the match with a 4&3 victory, after a par on hole No. 16.
- A native of San Antonio, Texas, McMyler never trailed in her match with Charlotte Heath.McMyler won the first hole with a 15-foot par and then won holes No. 12 and No. 13 to go ahead, 3UP.Heath battled back with wins on holes No. 15 and No. 16 to cut the lead to 1UP.Both golfers birdied No. 1 as McMyler got up-and-down from 40 yards and then McMyler posted another birdie on No. 2 to go back ahead, 2UP.McMyler parred No. 4 to go ahead 3UP and eventually parred No. 8 to win, 2&1.
- Duke sophomore Andie Smith went out first against Mirabel Ting.Ting led for seven out of the first 10 holes, before Smith battled back.Smith rolled in a birdie on No. 2 and parred No. 3 to go from being down a hole to 1UP.A bogey by Smith on No. 4 tied the match and another bogey on No. 6 gave Ting the 1UP lead again, before winning 3&1 for the Seminoles.
- Florida State got another point on the board as Lottie Woad went up against Duke rookie Katie Li.Woad led by as many as 2UP through three holes, but Li was able to tie the match as she won No. 13 and No. 16.The match remained tied until Woad won the second and third holes to take a 2UP lead.Woad went on to clinch the 3&2 win with a par on No. 7.
- The match came down to Duke's Anne Chen against Florida State's Alice Hodge.Chen, a product of Sugar Land, Texas, parred the first hole to go ahead 1UP, but gave it back on the second hole.Hodge went on to win three straight to take a 2UP advantage, before going ahead 4UP through 10 holes.Chen then mounted a big-time rally winning holes No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to tie the match.This included birdies on the second and third holes.Chen added another birdie on No. 7 to take a 1UP lead and eventually closed with a 2UP victory.
- Duke junior Rylie Heflin also competed against Katherine Cook of Florida State and finished in a tie.
How It Happened – Match Two vs. Mississippi State
- In the afternoon, Duke swept all five matches and only trailed on the back nine in one of those.
- Anne Chen posted a 2&1 win over Izzy Pellot to open the scoring for the Blue Devils. Chen opened with a slow start as Pellot led 1UP through six holes, but Chen got hot notching three straight birdies from holes 7-9 to take a 2UP lead. She won hole 10 to go ahead 3UP, but Pellot would try to make a comeback of her own. Pellot won holes No. 12 and No. 14, but Chen collected another birdie on No. 16 and closed the match with a par on No. 17.
- After dropping her morning match, Andie Smith regrouped and never trailed against Chiara Horder in the afternoon.Smith, who is from Hobe Sound, Fla., carded five birdies in her match to lead to her victory.She won the first and the fourth holes with birdies to take a 2UP lead.Smith built the lead to 4UP with another birdie on No. 8.Horder won holes No. 15 and No. 17 to cut the lead to 1UP for Smith, but closed with a par to take the 1UP victory.
- Katie Li fell down by three holes early to Surapa Janthamunee through three holes, but quietly started making her comeback. Li, a product of Basking Ridge, N.J., won hole No. 4 and No. 6 to trim the deficit to one. She then rolled in a 21-foot birdie on No. 8 for birdie, stuck her approach on No. 9 to six feet for birdie and then drained a 63-foot birdie on No. 10 for birdie to go ahead 2UP. Li also connected on an up-and-down to go 3UP on the 11th. Li closed the match on No. 15 with another birdie to win 4&3.
- Phoebe Brinker led 1UP in six of the first 10 holes, but Avery Week won No. 11 and No. 12 to take a 1UP lead on the back nine. Brinker, a native of Wilmington, Del, came back to birdie the 13th and parred the 14th to regain the lead, before winning 1UP.
- Emma McMyler led for 16 of her 17 holes in the afternoon against Julia Lopez Ramirez, before totaling a 3&1 victory. Guided by three straight birdies to open her match, McMyler led 2UP early. She hit the green in two from 222 yards on No. 1 and 2-putted, drained a 7-foot birdie on No. 2 and sank a 21-footer for birdie on No. 3. Ramirez tied the match with a par on No. 5 but McMyler won the next hole and eventually led by as many as 4UP through 11. She closed the match with a par on 17.
- Rylie Heflin went up against Sam Whateley in her afternoon match. Trailing by two holes through 12, Heflin responded by winning four straight holes to go 2UP heading to No. 17. She tied the 17th to close the match with a 2&1 victory.

- Anne Chen played her final nine holes against Florida State's Alice Hodge at 3-under-par.
- Chen has now come back from being down in match play by four holes against Florida State twice as she also came back against Charlotte Heath in the 2021 ACC Championship to win 1UP in Greensboro, N.C.
- Emma McMyler shot 2-under-par in her morning round against Florida State and then shot 3-under through 17 holes in the afternoon.
- Andie Smith shot 2-under in the afternoon to lead her to a victory. She is now 5-2 all-time in match play as a Blue Devil.
- Phoebe Brinker and Anne Chen each posted their 10th match play victories of their Duke careers.
- Rylie Heflin improved to 6-4-2 in match play with Duke.
