DURHAM, N.C. – The Blue Devil volleyball team hits the road for a pair of ACC matches, facing Georgia Tech Oct. 10 for a 7 p.m., matchup inside O'Keefe Gymnasium, before facing Clemson Oct. 12 at 1 p.m., inside Jervey Gym. Both matches will stream on ACC Network Extra.Â
Last Time Out
Duke faced in-state rival No. 25 North Carolina twice last week, falling 3-0 to the Tar Heels in both matches.Â
In the first meet-up of the week, No. 25 North Carolina swept Duke, 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-16), inside Carmichael Arena Wednesday. Duke was led by freshman Ashby Zubchevich, who logged a team-best 11 kills, while freshman Zoë Gillen-Malveaux followed with eight putaways. Defensively, sophomore Mailinh Godschall tallied nine total digs, while redshirt senior Ngozi Iloh tallied three total blocks.Â
The Blue Devils then welcomed the Tar Heels to Cameron Indoor Stadium Saturday, where UNC won in straight sets 3-0 (??25-14, 25-17, 25-23). The Tar Heels started the match by posting commanding wins in the first two frames. The Blue Devils battled in the third, knotting the score nine times, including at 21-21; however, UNC secured the win, taking five of the final seven points.  Zubchevich led Duke with seven kills, while sophomore Taylor Williams followed with six. On defense, Godschall tallied 14 digs, and Iloh paced the net with a career-best seven block assists.
Offensive Threats
The Blue Devils have tallied a total of 729 kills this season and rank No. 11 in the ACC in average kills per set (12.79). The offense is led by Zubchevich with 171 kills and Williams follows with 170 putaways. Â
Zubchevich has been dominant on offense for Duke, recording double-digit kills in eight matches this season, including five of the last six contests. She turned in her best offensive stretch of her career, tallying 42 kills during opening conference weekend. Against NC State, she powered the Blue Devils' attack with a career-best 21 kills on 45 attempts for a .311 hitting percentage. She followed that effort against Wake Forest by once again matching her career-high with 21 kills on 38 swings while posting a career-best .342 clip. Her last double-digit outing came in Duke's first match against North Carolina, where Zubchevich led the Blue Devils with 11 kills.
Williams boasts a .203 attack percentage and has notched double-digit kills in nine matches this season. She tallied a career-best 18 kills to help surge the offense to a 3-1 triumph over Bryant. Williams opened ACC play against the Wolfpack with 11 kills on 38 swings for a .211 hitting percentage, then followed with 13 putaways on 36 attempts for a .278 clip against Wake Forest. Against the Tar Heels, she totaled 13 kills across the two matches to help lead the Blue Devil attack.
ÂDefensive Efforts
Duke polls at fourth in conference statistics, earning 857 total digs, averaging 15.04 digs per set.
Godschall leads both Duke and the ACC with 263 total digs and ranks first in the conference, averaging 4.61 per set. She has tallied 20 or more digs in six matches this season — Bryant, Houston, Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Appalachian State and Wake Forest.Â
At the net, Duke has totaled 116.0 total blocks and posts an average of 2.04 blocks per set. Gillen-Malveaux leads the Blue Devils with 51 total denials at the net, including a team-best seven solo blocks. She has earned five or more total blocks in six matches this season. Iloh owns the team's second-best block total (50). She turned in a career-best performance last time out, tallying eight total blocks including one solo block and seven block assists against North Carolina. Â
ÂA Closer Look at the Series History Versus Georgia Tech
Duke leads the all-time series against Georgia Tech, 46-28, including a 24-17 advantage when facing the Yellow Jackets inside O'Keefe Gymnasium. Georgia Tech is currently on a seven-match win streak against Duke, with the Blue Devils' last victory coming during the 2017 season, when they earned a 3-1 triumph in Atlanta, Georgia. The series dates back to the 1980 season, when Duke secured a 2-0 win in Raleigh.
A Closer Look at the Series History Versus Clemson
The Blue Devils hold a 46-24 advantage over Clemson in the all-time series, including a 22-15 record when playing in Clemson, South Carolina. Duke has won the last five matchups between the two programs. The series dates back to the 1980 season, when Clemson claimed a 2-0 win in Columbia.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets
Georgia Tech has an overall record of 6-7, including a 1-3 mark in conference play. Offensively, the Yellow Jackets have totaled 623 kills this season, led by Lameen Mambu with 121. Adding to the attack is Bianca Garibaldi, who has registered 83 kills and ranks ninth in the conference with a .370 hitting percentage. On the defensive side, Sofia Velez leads the team with 196 digs, ranking sixth in the ACC by averaging 3.92 digs per set. At the net, Garibaldi also leads the way with 57 total blocks, ranking No. 10 in the conference.
Scouting the Tigers
Clemson enters the weekend with a 12-4 overall record, including a 0-4 mark in ACC play. Offensively, Kennedy Wagner leads the Tigers with 208 kills, averaging 3.85 per set to rank sixth in the conference. Setting up the attack is Katherine Sandt, who has tallied 575 assists this season and sits third in the ACC with 9.91 assists per set. Defensively, McKenna Gildon anchors the back row with 233 digs, ranking seventh in the conference, while Kate Hansen leads the effort at the net with 41 total blocks.

Duke remains on the road, traveling to Syracuse Oct. 17 for a 6 p.m., matchup. The Blue Devils close the weekend at Boston College Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. Both matches will steam on ACC Network Extra.
