Bob Weiseman is the Deputy Director of Athletics for Operations and Capital Projects and has been with Duke Athletics since 2008. During his time at Duke, he has played a central role in advancing athletic operations, facility management and capital project development, helping shape the infrastructure and operational strategy of the department.
As a key member of the Duke Athletics executive leadership team, Weiseman oversees all athletic facilities, game operations and championship events. He leads a team responsible for more than 300 annual events, including varsity game days, campus events, outside events and facility rentals. His strategic oversight ensures seamless coordination across departments and alignment with university and community standards.
Weiseman also serves as the primary administrator for Duke women’s basketball. Prior to this role, he held sport supervision responsibilities for Duke’s fencing and field hockey programs. He also acts as the athletics liaison to Duke’s Facilities Management, Project Management, Landscape Services and Environmental Services.
In addition, Weiseman oversees Duke Athletics’ Climate and Sustainability initiatives, helping to lead efforts that align athletic operations with the university’s broader environmental goals. He also provides administrative oversight and assistance for the Duke University Golf Course, supporting its continued excellence as a recreational and competitive venue.
Weiseman has overseen more than $300 million in capital improvements and renovations across Duke’s athletic facilities. His leadership has guided major projects such as the comprehensive renovation of Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium, the expansion and modernization of Cameron Indoor Stadium, and the development of the Scott Family Athletics Performance Center. Additional efforts include upgrades to Koskinen Stadium, the Yoh Football Center, Jack Coombs Field, and the creation of new venues such as Duke Softball Stadium, Cohan Fields and Morris Williams Track & Field Stadium. He has also led enhancements to Ambler Tennis Stadium and Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center, including the addition of Curtin Plaza, along with numerous turf and grass field renovations throughout Duke’s athletic complex.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Weiseman and the Athletic Facilities, Game Operations, Championships and Events (AFGO) Department, in collaboration with Duke Athletic Medicine, designed, implemented and led Duke Athletics’ return-to-play efforts beginning in July 2020. Over the next 18 months, the AFGO team coordinated daily operations in alignment with Duke, ACC and NCAA policies. Their work included administering over 150,000 COVID-19 tests, managing quarantine and isolation logistics and overseeing transportation for COVID-positive individuals from off campus.
Despite the challenges, the team successfully supported over 200 varsity game days and 50 campus and outdoor events in 2021. For their extraordinary service, the AFGO Department received the 2020 Duke University Presidential Award, the university’s highest staff honor. In her nomination, Vice President and Director of Athletics Nina King praised the team’s “work ethic, desire to serve and ability to troubleshoot issues,” calling them “excellent ambassadors for the university.”
Weiseman began his Duke tenure as Equipment Manager for the lacrosse and soccer programs. In 2010, he transitioned into Game Operations as Game Operations Manager, where he led the department’s expansion to support all home athletic events. He was promoted to Director of Athletic Facilities and Game Operations in 2012, and later to Associate Director of Athletics, followed by Senior Associate Director of Athletics in 2018. In each role, he has driven operational growth, championship hosting and facility excellence.
Prior to Duke, Weiseman spent seven years at Villanova University, where he served in a variety of roles, including media relations assistant, assistant coordinator of marketing, promotions, and special events, assistant director of athletic facilities and operations, and ultimately director of athletic facilities and operations.
A native of Doylestown, Pa., Weiseman earned his degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Sports Management from the University of Lynchburg, where he also served as a sports information intern and public address announcer for all Hornet programs.
Weiseman has been recognized for his service and leadership with the 2012–13 Duke Excellence Award, honoring his embodiment of Duke Athletics’ values in the office, on campus and in the community. He also received the 2013 Duke Police Coveted Badge Award, presented to a civilian for extraordinary service to the Duke Police Department. In 2017, Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium - one of his signature projects - was honored with a Facility of Merit Award at the National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition.
