DURHAM – Duke came up short in a midweek matchup at Liberty on Tuesday night as the Flames hit a walk-off single in the ninth to win, 3-2, at Liberty Baseball Stadium.

Knotted at 1-1 after the first inning, Duke (16-21) utilized opportunistic offense and aggressive base running to take the lead, 2-1, in the sixth. Liberty (23-12) scored runs in each of the last two innings to win, 3-2.

Junior
Chad Knight led Duke offensively, finishing 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a stolen base. Senior
RJ Schreck went 1-for-3 in the game and added a career-high three stolen bases. Duke's six stolen bases against Liberty were the most in a game since six against NC Central on April 6, 2021.

Right-hander
Cooper Stinson started on the mound for the Blue Devils in a planned staff day. The senior out of Peachtree Corners, Ga., allowed one run on three hits in the 1.2 innings of work. Stinson fanned four batters in the outing.

Duke jumped on Liberty quick, scoring a run in the top of the first. Junior
Graham Pauley and Schreck earned consecutive walks and then each stole to put runners on second and third with one out. Knight grounded into fielder's choice to score the run. Liberty pulled one back in the bottom of the inning to tie it, 1-1.

The Blue Devils broke the stalemate in the top of the sixth to go up 2-1. Schreck singled to right field for Duke's first hit of the game. Following the single, Schreck stole second and third during the next at-bat before Knight singled through the left side to plate the run.

Liberty hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game before a walk-off single in the ninth.

Out of the bullpen, sophomore
Adam Boucher threw two valuable innings for Duke. Boucher allowed just one hit while striking out a pair. Freshman
Jonathan Santucci, sophomore
Josh Allen and graduate student
John Natoli each pitched a scoreless inning in relief, combining for five strikeouts.

Next up, Duke travels to Atlanta, Ga., to face Georgia Tech in a three-game series Friday through Sunday.
