BRIGHTON, Mass. – No. 11 Duke softball (36-8, 13-5 ACC) completed the three-game sweep over Boston College (19-22, 2-13 ACC) after a 4-2 victory in nine innings on Sunday.
Freshman
D'Auna Jennings led the way with her bat, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored, including the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning. Classmate
Aminah Vega also collected three hits while driving in two of Duke's four runs.
Junior pitcher
Jala Wright earned her ninth win in the circle after working 8.0 innings and allowing just two hits and three walks, while punching out six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Devils came out swinging, quickly loading the bases on three straight singles in the opening frame.
- Sophomore Ana Gold drew a walk in her first at bat to bring in Jennings for Duke's first run.
- Vega followed Gold with a single down the left field line to score graduate student Deja Davis and put the Blue Devils in front, 2-0.
- Boston College responded in the home half with two runs of their own to even the score, 2-2.
- The Blue Devils registered five additional hits over the next six frames but couldn't quite push the go ahead run across, sending the game into extra innings.
- RBI-singles from senior Gisele Tapia and Vega in the top of the ninth pushed Jennings and Davis across home plate once again to score the two go-ahead runs and claim the 4-2 win.
