UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ? The Duke fencing team competed at the Penn State Duals on Saturday with the men finishing 2-3 and the women finishing 2-4. The men's and women's teams both posted wins over Drew and Haverford at the Penn State Duals.
The women's epee, foil and saber squads all went 3-3 on the day. Freshman Nicole Bloom led the epee squad with an 11-5 mark, while senior Anne Kercsmar went 11-7. Senior Theresa Poulos finished 5-12 and freshman Camille Ratliff was 1-2.
Sophomore Alexandra Stein paced the foil squad with an 8-8 mark on the day, while junior Marilyn Tycer went 8-10, sophomore Stephanie Butnick was 5-12 and freshman Stephanie Shyu finished 1-2.
Senior Annie Massart anchored the saber squad with a 10-8 record, while senior Allison Schaffer went 9-9. Sophomore Jessica Hancock was 3-6 on the day and junior Amanda Goldenberg went 4-5.
The men's foil squad led the Blue Devils with a 3-2 record on the day. Junior Ben Hendricks led the foil squad with an 11-4 mark, while freshman Eliot Cohen finished 10-5, freshman Andrew Simon was 4-2 and junior Jackson McClam went 4-5.
The men's saber squad finished 2-3 with sophomores Peter Truszkowski and Laughlin Stewart leading the way with 7-8 records. Senior Michael DiMarco went 6-8 and junior Andrew Sobel was 0-1.
The men's epee squad was 0-5 on the day. Junior Zachary Moss paced the epee squad with a 6-9 record, senior Theodore Lauzen was 2-13 and junior Raymond Fan finished 1-14 for the Blue Devils.
Duke will travel to Boston, Mass., next weekend to compete against six other schools. The Blue Devils will then host a dual meet Feb. 9-10 at home prior to the Junior Olympics Feb. 16-19 in Denver, Colo. The Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championships will take place March 10 in Madison, N.J. and the NCAA Championships are slated for March 21-24 in Drew, N.J.
