DURHAM, N.C. – Senior defender and 2012 All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection Paula Heimbach has been named to the 2013 Preseason All-ACC team, as announced by the conference Thursday, Aug. 22. The 11-member squad was decided by a vote of the league's seven head coaches.
A Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association third team All-America honoree in 2012, Heimbach also garnered all-conference and first team All-South region recognition last fall. She totaled four points on one goal and two assists during her junior campaign and finished tied for fifth in the ACC with one defensive save. A two-year starter for the Blue Devils, Heimbach has been a key contributor on the squad's back line throughout her career at Duke.
As a team, Duke was picked to finish third in the conference behind reigning ACC champion North Carolina and Maryland.
The Blue Devils continue exhibition play Saturday, Aug. 24 against North Carolina at 2 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C., before kicking off the 2013 slate Friday, Aug. 30 at 3 p.m. against Indiana at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.
