CARY, N.C. – The Duke men's tennis team finished its opening weekend of fall action with only singles competition, recording three victories. In Malibu, Calif., Alvarez, ranked No. 7 in the Oracle/ITA preseason poll, battled with TCU's Cameron Norrie, who is ranked 15th in the preseason, before falling 6-3, 7-6 (2). Norrie jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening set. Alvarez cut the deficit down to 5-3, but Norrie held serve and closed out for the first set victory. In the second set, the two were tied 1-1, 2-2 and 3-3 before Norrie broke Alvarez to take a 4-3 lead. Norrie pushed the lead to 5-3 before Alvarez held serve and broke to retie the set, this time at 5-5. The two then went to the tiebreaker, which Norrie won 7-2.
