DURHAM, N.C. – A program-record 15 Duke field hockey student-athletes were named to the 2015 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, as released by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Tuesday. The announcement marked the fifth consecutive year the Blue Devils had 10 or more players receive the academic award.
In addition, Duke's 15 selections to the National Academic Squad led all ACC institutions.
The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year.
Seniors Hannah Barreca, Amanda Kim and Sarah Urdahl led the Blue Devils as four-year recipients of the National Academic Squad honor, while redshirt senior Lauren Blazing was recognized for the fifth time in her career.
Senior Aileen Johnson and juniors Robin Blazing, Heather Morris and Savannah Story were tabbed to the National Academic Squad for the third time in their careers while sophomores Sarah Furey and Meghan Norair received their second selections. Sophomores Alexa Mackintire and Stephanie Pezzuti and freshmen Caroline Andretta, Morgan Bitting and Sammi Steele were among the first-time recipients of the academic accolade.
The NFHCA's announcement came a day after the Duke squad earned a 2015 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Academic Team Award. The organization will release its Scholars of Distinction Wednesday.
