DURHAM, N.C. – After a tough road contest at Louisville, the ninth-ranked Duke women's soccer is set to host Notre Dame Thursday evening for an ACC matchup, marking the team's annual "Pink Game".
The Blue Devils and Fighting Irish are set for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Koskinen Stadium, with the contest airing live on ACC Network Extra.
Recapping Last Week
The Blue Devils picked up a point in the ACC standings in their lone matchup last week. Duke battled to a 1-1 draw in double-overtime at No. 14 Louisville at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Duke received its lone goal of the matchup from senior
Ella Stevens, who cashed in the first penalty kick of her career early in the first half. Louisville responded in the second half with the equalizer before both teams went scoreless across the remainder of the contest, marking Duke's sixth tie of the season.
Duke vs. Notre Dame
Thursday's matchup between Duke and Notre Dame marks the 18th all-time matchup between the two ACC foes. Notre Dame holds the all-time series advantage over Duke, 9-7-1, while Duke owns a two-game winning streak in the series. The series is deadlocked at 2-2 across the four all-time matchups in Durham. Most recently, the Blue Devils traveled to South Bend a season ago, defeating the Fighting Irish, 2-0. Head coach
Robbie Church owns a 4-3-0 career mark against Notre Dame.
Unbeaten Streak Going Strong
Duke holds a 12-game unbeaten streak, which serves as the second-longest in the ACC. The Blue Devils have not been beaten since the second game of the season, where they fell to then-No. 2 North Carolina on the road in a non-conference matchup in the final game of the 2019 Carolina Nike Classic. Duke's 12-game mark trails only top-ranked Virginia in the conference, who holds a 15-game unbeaten streak. Other schools in the ACC who hold multiple-game unbeaten streaks include North Carolina (seven games), Louisville (six games), and Virginia Tech (two games).
Drawing NCAA & School Records
The Blue Devils have earned double-overtime draws in four of their last five matchups, pushing their draw total to six on the season. Duke battled to a scoreless draw with then-No. 13 Georgetown in its home opener before recording a 1-1 tie in the ACC opener against NC State in double overtime. Prior to the team's most recent matchup with Clemson, the Blue Devils battled to three consecutive draws against top-ranked Virginia and then-No. 23 Virginia Tech on the road, before reaching a scorless draw against third-ranked North Carolina. Duke's six ties this season serve as the most in a single season since 2013, while being one shy of the school record--seven in 2007. The Blue Devils are also one scoreless draw away from tying the NCAA record for most scoreless draws in a season.
Sophomore Duo Leading the Offense
The sophomore duo of
Mackenzie Pluck and
Marykate McGuire has headlined the Blue Devil offensive efforts this season. The two rank first and second in goals scored, while also holding the top two of the top three spots in points for Duke.
Pluck ranks second on the team in points (19) and assists (5), while tying for second in goals scored with seven. The North Wales, Pa., native has registered two of Duke's four multi-goal games this season, most recently coming against ninth-ranked Clemson. Pluck is tied for eighth in the ACC in both points and points per game (1.36), while tying for ninth in goals scored.
McGuire has led the goal-scoring effort for Duke with her team-leading eight goals this season. The Portsmouth, R.I., native ranks third on the team in points with 18. McGuire is tied for fourth in the ACC in goals scored, while placing 10th in points.
Duke in the Polls
Duke checked in at No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll this week as one of five ACC teams in the top 15, and one of seven schools ranked in the top 25. Additionally, the Blue Devils are ranked ninth in the Soccer America Top 25, and 11th in the
TopDrawerSoccer rankings. Duke is ranked for the 55th straight week in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, dating back to the ninth week of the 2015 season, when the Blue Devils were ranked No. 22.
