DURHAM, N.C. – Duke field hockey is set to host rival North Carolina in its first home game of the 2020 campaign on Sunday, Oct. 4. The contest is slated for a 12 p.m. start at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.
Sunday's game will be Duke's second nationally televised game of the season, airing on the ACC Network. Access to ACCN is determined by your TV provider and can be streamed through the ESPN app.

HISTORY WITH THE TAR HEELS
This weekend's matchup will be the 93rd meeting all-time as the Tar Heels lead the series 78-13-1. The Blue Devils last victory over North Carolina was on Oct. 20, 2017 when Duke pulled away with a 3-2 win at home.
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA
Heading into the weekend, North Carolina had won 47 consecutive games for the longest active win streak in Division I athletics, including back-to-back national titles in 2018 and 2019. North Carolina headed to Louisville Friday with a 1-0 start to the season, but the Cardinals snapped the Tar Heels' streak with a 3-1 victory.
Head coach Karen Shelton's 2020 squad returns 15 letterwinners and six starters from last season, including junior Erin Matson. Matson, the 2019 First Point USA/NFHCA DI National Player of the Year, has scored a goal in both of North Carolina's contests this season.
OPENING WEEKEND
Duke's fall campaign officially began last weekend at Louisville with games on Saturday and Sunday. The Blue Devils fell in the first game, 3-0, and faced a 3-1 setback in the second. Junior
Noor van de Laar tallied the first goal of the season for Duke, scoring with 19 seconds left in the first half of Sunday's contest. Assisting in the scoring play was sophomore
Hannah Miller who recorded her first collegiate assist.
Freshman
Piper Hampsch started both games in the cage last weekend. The rookie goalkeeper holds a 3.00 goals against average after facing 26 shots in which she made nine saves, including a season-high six on Sunday.
BLUE DEVIL DEBUTS
Five Blue Devils made their first appearance as a Duke player as
Darcy Bourne,
Alayna Burns,
Barb Civitella, Hampsch and
Eva Nunnink all saw action last week. Between the two games, Bourne, Burns, Hampsch and Nunnink each earned a starting position in at least one game.
Bourne led the Blue Devils in shots over the weekend with five, tallying four in Sunday's matchup.
