DURHAM – Duke softball is set to kick off a busy fall schedule, beginning with the first two games of Fall Ball in Charlotte, N.C. The Blue Devils will play the host Charlotte on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m., and face South Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 12 p.m.
THE JOURNEY BEGINS
After a historic 2021 season that saw the program's first ACC Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance, the Blue Devils will open exhibition play this fall. Head coach
Marissa Young is back for her fifth season at the helm of the program, following a program-best 44-12 record last season.
Several members of the championship squad are back, including all four All-ACC honorees from a year ago. The first NFCA All-American in program history,
Deja Davis, is back for her senior year after hitting .389 with seven home runs, 28 RBI, seven triples and 14 stolen bases. Outfielder
Jameson Kavel is back as a graduate student, after earning All-ACC First Team honors following a .320 batting average, four home runs and 33 RBI over 56 games.

Shelby Walters are back to headline an experienced pitching staff. St. George was the ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player, All-ACC First Team honoree and pitched to a record of 18-8, with a 2.21 ERA over 158.2 innings, while striking out 199. Walters was equally effective, going 19-3 with a 1.28 ERA over 147.2 innings pitched, collecting 87 strikeouts.

The Blue Devils are adding eight new members to the team for the 2022 season. Seven freshmen; infielder
Jada Baker (Longwood, Fla.), pitcher/utility player
Kennedy Barron (Section, Ala.), infielder
Ana Gold (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), utility player
Mariah Headen (Greensboro, N.C.), utility player
Leah Jarnac (Safety Harbor, Fla.), catcher
Taylor Krapf (Oviedo, Fla.) and outfielder
Kelsey Zampa (Hartland, Mich.) have joined the team as part of the fourth-ranked 2021 Signing Class in the country per
Extra Innings Softball.
Also joining the team is sophomore pitcher
Jala Wright (Charlotte, N.C.), who comes home to her native North Carolina after her freshman season at Michigan State. Wright made 11 appearances and four starts in the circle as a rookie for the Spartans, pitching 25.0 innings and striking out 18 batters.
WHAT'S IN STORE THIS FALL
The Blue Devils will play a packed fall schedule that features eight exhibition games, the first alumni game and culminates with the Fall World Series in November. The slate is made up of several local opponents that the Blue Devils have plenty of familiarity with from previous seasons.
