Grace Brightbill has been named the ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. Brightbill shares the award after her stellar performance against Old Dominion Sunday.
This is the first career weekly award for Brightbill and the second ACC defensive honor for the Blue Devils this season.
Making her first career start, Brightbill anchored Duke's defense with a career-high eight saves en route to a 5-1 victory versus the Monarchs. Old Dominion scored midway through the first quarter before Brightbill and Duke backfield put the clamps on the visitors.
The Alexandria, Va., native was excellent in leading the defense throughout her 56 minutes, including, stopping the Monarchs on all 10 penalty corners. A graduate student transfer from Princeton, Brightbill's 56:30 in the cage were also a career high in minutes asΒ
Charlotte JohnsonΒ came in for the final 3:30. HerΒ previous career best was four stops. Β
The Blue Devils close out their home slate Saturday, Oct. 16 against No. 7 Syracuse. First hit is set for 12 p.m., and Duke will honor its graduate students and seniors following the game.
