Duke Opens Home Slate Against Bloomsburg, The Citadel & Presbyterian

DURHAM – The Duke wrestling program (3-4, 0-0 ACC) returns to Cameron Indoor Stadium for the first of several home duals, facing Bloomsburg, The Citadel and Presbyterian on Sunday.

First up for the Blue Devils is a matchup with Bloomsburg (3-1, 0-0 MAC) at 12 p.m., followed by clashes with The Citadel (2-0, 0-0 SoCon) and Presbyterian (1-1, 0-0 SoCon) at 2 p.m., and 4 p.m., respectively.

All three matches will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

LAST TIME OUT
The Blue Devils competed in four duals in a Mid-Atlantic swing, defeating Drexel 25-20, before falling to Maryland, Hofstra and American in tight decisions.

Redshirt senior brothers Josh Finesilver and Matt Finesilver continued their elite stretch of wrestling, each going 4-0 on the weekend. Matt took down the No. 14 wrestler in the nation, while Josh won every dual by a major decision or technical fall.

Junior Wade Unger had a big weekend as well, going 3-1 and earning his first collegiate ranked victory, downing No. 32 Parker Kropman of Drexel. Unger's lone loss came in a sudden victory and the Montvale, N.J., native has continued a consistent breakout season, going 9-6 overall at 157 pounds.

- The Blue Devils will meet Bloomsburg and Presbyterian in duals for the first time in program history.
- However, the Blue Devils did get experience against wrestlers from Presbyterian earlier in the year, facing off against several individuals at the Battle at The Citadel on Nov. 6.
- Duke renews a long-standing regional dual series with The Citadel for the first time since 2014.
- The Blue Devils lead the all-time series 28-13-3. Duke saw the Bulldogs earlier this season at their season opening tournament.
- Both Finesilver brothers carry national rankings via InterMat, with Matt checking in at No. 8 in the nation at 174 pounds, while Josh has risen to No. 9 in the 149-pound weight class.
- Matt Finesilver continued his season-opening unbeaten streak and improved to 14-0, earning his highest ranked win of the season over Drexel's No. 14 Mickey O'Malley in a 6-2 decision. The two points dropped by Finesilver were his only two of the weekend, going 4-0 and outscoring opponents 41-2.
- Both Finesilver's, recently passed the 60-win threshold and have their eyes set on 70. Josh needs six more wins, while Matt needs seven to reach 70 wins
- Unger's next victory will be the 20th in his collegiate career. The junior is 9-6 overall this season.
- Head Coach Glen Lanham needs two more dual victories to record his 50th at the helm of the Blue Devils program.
