CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Through chilly and rainy conditions, the No. 11 Duke women's lacrosse team fell to No. 1 North Carolina, 13-6, Friday evening on Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Blue Devils suffered their first loss of the season (3-1, 1-1 ACC) while the top-ranked Tar Heels remain undefeated (4-0, 1-0 ACC).
The Blue Devils were led by graduate student 
Gabby Rosenzweig with two goals and an assist. 
Katie Cronin also added two scores.
The Tar Heels jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage with goals a minute and a half apart before 
Abby Landry got Duke on the board with her sixth goal of the season at the 18:47 mark. After the Tar Heels' extended their lead to 3-1, Cronin was knocked to the ground which set up a free-position attempt. The Darien, Conn., native then connected for her third FPG of the season and eighth tally of the year.
North Carolina answered back to create a 4-2 lead but the duo of 
Maddie Jenner and Rosenzweig took over as Rosenzweig found Jenner in the circle to pull Duke within one with 12:24 remaining. The goal and assist were the eighth for Jenner and Rosenzweig, respectively. Unfortunately, the Tar Heels would go on to add two more goals before halftime to take a 6-3 edge into the break. 
Goalkeeper 
Sophia LeRose gathered four saves in the last nine minutes, including two dangerous shots by the Tar Heels that could have put them up 8-3. LeRose finished the contest with seven saves, four ground balls and two caused turnovers in 60 minutes.
The Tar Heels would go on to add seven goals to start the second, including one 46 seconds into the frame. Duke would score three goals in under one minute from Cronin and Rosenzweig (2x) but weren't able to overcome the deficit. Cronin connected on her second FPG of the game with 4:54 remaining, while Rosenzweig tallied both of her goals to end all scoring.
North Carolina outshot Duke 28-18 but the Blue Devils came out on top in draw controls earning 11 with Jenner registering four.
The Tar Heels were led by Jamie Ortega and Ally Mastroianni who garnered four and three goals, respectively. Goalkeeper Taylor Moreno finished with eight saves.
Duke will travel to Greenville, N.C., to take on East Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m., on ESPN+.
