DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke field hockey team checked in at No. 12 in the first Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll of the 2020-21 campaign, as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.

All seven ACC teams are represented in the poll with No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 Louisville, No. 8 Syracuse, No. 12 Duke, No. 13 Wake Forest, No. 14 Virginia and No. 15 Boston College.

Duke posted a 2-7 record in the fall and opened its spring 2021 slate with a 2-0 shutout at Virginia on Friday, March 5. Offensively, the Blue Devils are led by freshman
Darcy Bourne with 11 points from five goals and an assist. Sophomore
Hannah Miller holds eight points with a team-high four assists. Nine Blue Devils have tallied at least one goal in the 2020-21 season while freshman
Piper Hampsch has played all 607 minutes in the cage, making 40 saves and earning three shutouts. Â

The Blue Devils open a three-game homestand this weekend with No. 13 Wake Forest on Friday, March 19, at 4 p.m. and No. 5 Liberty on Sunday, March 21, at 1 p.m. Both contests at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

As a reminder, Duke University is beginning its spring sports seasons without fans in attendance. Only essential game personnel and broadcast will be allowed in the facilities.
