DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 10 Duke women's lacrosse team fell to No. 2 Syracuse, 15-5, Saturday afternoon in Koskinen Stadium.
With the setback, the Blue Devils drop to 4-2 overall as the Orange remain undefeated at 3-0.
Duke was led by senior
Katie Cronin with two goals and an assist for three points and also received goals from
Maddie Jenner,
Ainsley Thurston and
Olivia Carner.
Syracuse netted its first goal at 26:40, 32 seconds before graduate
Gabby Rosenzweig found Jenner at 26:08 (1-1) for her ninth goal of the season.
The Orange would go on a 9-0 run to end the first half (10-1). Goalkeeper
Sophia LeRose registered eight saves in the first 30 minutes on 22 Syracuse shots as the Blue Devils were limited to taking eight.
Thurston found the net at 27:55 in the second period off a pass from Cronin, scoring for the fourth time this season (10-2). Carner connected on her first free position goal of 2021 to make it 12-3 Syracuse at 23:06. The Orange would go on to add three more goals in the next 21 minutes as Cronin notched her first goal at 19:37 (13-4) and a man-down goal at 2:29, her 12th goal of the year.
Syracuse's goalkeeper Asa Goldstock racked up 12 saves on 20 Duke shots.
Katie Cosgrove picked up a team-leading three ground balls for Duke while
Catriona Barry and
Cubby Biscardi each had three draw controls. Defender
Natalie Kahn caused three turnovers.
The Orange were led by Meaghan Tyrrell with five goals and an assist for six points.
Duke returns to Koskinen Stadium Thursday, March 11, for non-conference action against High Point at 5 p.m.
