DURHAM – USA Field Hockey announced the teams for the upcoming 2021 Young Women's National Championship (YWNC) as a total of 13 incoming, current and former members of the Duke field hockey program were named to a squad. Duke assistant coach
Ralph Boersma will be coaching. The event will be held at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va., June 15-20.
The tournament will feature the top players in the country in their respective age groups, competing to be crowned national champions. After the cancellation of the 2020 edition, the YWNC will feature a 10-team pool of top collegiate and post-collegiate athletes, all current members of the Rise, U.S. U-21 Women's National Team, National Development Team and USWNT.
"We're excited and proud to have so many former, current and future Duke Blue Devils competing at the YWNC," head coach
Pam Bustin said. "The opportunity to play and compete alongside our national team members and talented collegiate players is incredible. Thank you to USA Field Hockey and coaches who will be leading these teams. Play hard and enjoy the games!"
Former Blue Devils representing the USWNT are
Haley Randall and
Jillian Wolgemuth. Players from the U-21 WNT include
Leah Crouse,
Hannah Miller,

Kelsey Reznick were also invited to compete.
"I really look forward to coaching at the YWNC Tournament," said Boersma. "This year's format guarantees a week of high-level hockey and great competitiveness between the players and coaches. It will be fun to coach against some of our past, current and future Duke field hockey players. This is a great stage for them to show their growth and quality in a high-performance event."
Palde and Wolgemuth will play on Team Brave, while Kim and Miller play for Dream. Norair and Reznick will compete on Honor, and Varney will play for Liberty. Boersma will coach Neff on the Patriots squad as Civitella and Hampsch join Pride. Crouse will suit up with former teammate Randall on United.
Each team will play three pool games following the International Hockey Federation's FIH Hockey Pro League points system – win=three points, draw=one point, shootout=one point and loss=zero. Crossover games on the final day will be how teams finish in terms of ranking.
