Leah Crouse and the U.S. U21/22 National Team are off to a strong start at the 2021 Junior Pan American Championship, going 2-0 to take the top spot in pool play. The United States defeated both Chile and Trinidad & Tobago to head into the semifinals Thursday.

Pool B consisted of the United States, Chile and Trinidad & Tobago. The U.S. will await its semifinal opponent for Thursday, August 26 at 4 p.m.

Crouse Has Hand in Winning Goal

The United States opened the tournament with a solid 2-1 victory over host country Chile. The U.S. wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Lauren Wadas needed just 19 seconds to find the back of the cage for the 1-0 advantage.

Chile answered in the 12th minute on a penalty corner to even the score. Six minutes later, Crouse' slip shot on a penalty corner got past the Chilean goalkeeper as Sofia Southam put in the off the post.

After Chile had the better chances in the third quarter, Crouse and the United States put pressure on in the final frame. The Blue Devil midfielder drew a penalty corner after being taken down inside the circle, but couldn't convert on multiple chances. The U.S. defense held strong in the final 10 minutes as Chile pressed forward looking for the equalizer.

United States Cruises Past Trinidad & Tobago
It was another fast and furious start for the U.S., against T&T as it took a 1-0 lead just over a minute into the game. Less than two minutes later, Southam extended the lead to two before the United States tacked on five more before halftime for a 7-0 lead.

Crouse did not score in the game as
Charlotte De VriesΒ led the way with five goals.
