SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 17th-ranked Duke women's basketball team picked up its 400th ACC program win with a 74-65 victory over Syracuse Sunday afternoon at the Carrier Dome.

Onome Akinbode-James netted a career-high 16 points and grabbed six boards to lead five double-figure scorers for Duke (11-2, 2-1 ACC). Classmate
Miela Goodchild and freshman
Shayeann Day-Wilson each chipped in 13 points, while
Lexi Gordon and
Jade Williams added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Williams posted a team-leading seven rebounds and Gordon, as well as Goodchild, dished out a team best four assists.
The first period was a back-and-forth affair and that featured three ties and six lead changes. The Blue Devils scored five of the first seven points of the game before the Orange battled back to tie the contest. Day-Wilson provided a spark off the bench and scored the final eight Duke points of the quarter; however, it was Syracuse who held a one point lead at the end of 10 minutes.
After Akinbode-James put Duke back in front on a nice finish inside, the Blue Devils maintained control throughout the second period. The senior tallied six points in the period and Gordon added five as Duke extended its lead to double digits. Goodchild's second trifecta of the half put the visitors up by a dozen with 30 seconds left in the half, and Duke took a 40-28 lead into the break.
The Blue Devils held a 45-33 advantage midway through the third, but Syracuse clawed its way back into the game and pulled within three points following a pair of free throws. Williams and Goodchild combined for the next 10 Blue Devil points to build the lead back to double digits. Goodchild added two more triples in the stanza, the latter moving her into tied for 10th all-time on the Duke career three pointers made list. Gordon converted a driving layup just before the clock hit triple digits to put Duke ahead by 11, 59-48, heading into the final period.
Duke locked up the victory in the fourth quarter, extending the lead to as many as 15 points. The Orange attempted one final comeback, but never got closer than seven points. The Blue Devils sank four free throws down the stretch, securing the nine point win.
Teisha Hyman led the Orange (8-7, 1-4) with 23 points.
