DURHAM - The Duke swimming and diving program begins the 2022-23 season Saturday at the Taishoff Aquatic Center, hosting the Virginia Tech Hokies at 2 p.m. The Hokies men's team enter the first week of competition ranked No. 11 in the country, while the women's team opens the season No. 24 by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America TYR Poll. The Blue Devils' women's program opens the year just outside the top-25, receiving votes after finishing the 2021-22 season ranked No. 24.

NOTEABLES
- Virginia Tech leads the all-time series over the Duke men's program 17-13, winning the last 10 meetings. On the women's side the Hokies lead 8-7-1, with the two sides splitting the previous three meetings 1-1-1.
- The Blue Devils and Hokies are separated by 11 points in the CSCAA preseason rankings, with Duke sitting one point behind Minnesota for 25th.
- Senior diver Ali Watson, junior swimmers Sarah Foley and Catherine Purnell and sophomore diver Margo O'Meara return to the Blue Devils' lineup after competing in the 2021-22 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
- Freshman Kaelyn Gridley will make her Blue Devils' debut on Saturday. The Wilmette, Ill. native was selected to the United States Junior National Team back in September.
- Duke signed the No. 7 recruiting class in the country on the women's side and were picked as the No. 20 team in the country by Swim Swam.
