DURHAM – The No. 8 Duke women's lacrosse team is set to welcome East Carolina (4-0) Monday to Koskinen Stadium for its final non-conference game for a few weeks. Opening draw is set for 5 p.m., on ACCNX.
OPENING DRAW
Monday marks the fifth matchup between the Blue Devils and Pirates as Duke owns a 4-0 lead in the all-time series. The two met in 2021 with Duke winning 16-4 in Greenville. Duke is coming off five commanding victories to start the 2022 season and is averaging 22.40 goals per game, which leads the nation.
A LOOK BACK
Off another powerful offensive performance, the eighth-ranked Duke women's lacrosse team secured a 20-4 victory over Wofford Thursday afternoon in Koskinen Stadium. With the victory, the Blue Devils improve to 5-0, their best start since 2015 when Duke finished the season 16-5 (5-2 ACC) and went to the NCAA semifinals.
As its proven all season, Duke scored fast and furiously as the nation's leader in scoring offense. Head coach
Kerstin Kimel's squad received scoring contributions from 12 different Blue Devils. Duke has scored 20 or more goals in all five games this spring. Offensively, Duke was led by graduate student
Catriona Barry with six points off of five goals and one assist while senior
Maddie Jenner added three goals. Through five games, Duke has tallied 112 goals and 59 assists for 171 points. Their 22.40 goals per game and 33.60 points per game rank first nationally.
Duke has proven to score fast and furiously this early season and received goal contributions from 18 different players. Not only are they scoring in bunches, the Blue Devils are also sharing the ball well with 59 assists on 112 goals, led by
Eva Greco and
Olivia Carner with 10 each.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES
Monday marks the fifth matchup between the Blue Devils and Pirates as Duke owns a 4-0 lead in the all-time series. The two met in 2021 with Duke winning 16-4 in Greenville. East Carolina is 4-0 this season and most recently defeated George Mason, 16-10.
The Pirates are led by Caroline Kimel with 21 points (9G, 12A). Caroline is the daughter of Duke head coach
Kerstin Kimel. Megan Tryniski also owns 17 points (10G, 7A) on the offensive end. Defensively, Alexandra Giacolone is pacing the Pirates with 10 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. East Carolina's main goalkeeper with 120 minutes between the pipes is Brynn Knight. She owns an 8.00 GAA and a .484 save percentage.

Head coach
Kerstin Kimel's daughter, Caroline, is a junior on East Carolina's team. The two squads have met every year since Caroline's freshman year in 2020. This season, she leads the team as an attacker with 21 points (9G, 12A) and owns six ground balls and two caused turnovers. East Carolina head coach Amanda Moore previously spent five years as an assistant coach under
Kerstin Kimel at Duke. Moore was named the first head coach in program history on June 27, 2016.
LOOKING AHEAD
Looking ahead, Duke opens its conference slate Sunday, March 6 against No. 3 Syracuse. Opening draw is set for noon at the Carrier Dome.
