No. 10 Duke Sweeps Morning Session at Big Ten Invite

SARASOTA, Fla. – No. 10 Duke swept its morning set of races before placing second in each race during the afternoon session on Friday at the Big Ten Invite in Sarasota, Fla.

The Blue Devils' Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four each outraced Iowa, Minnesota and Notre Dame in the morning session, led off by the 2V4 surging past the second-place Hawkeyes by 3.8 seconds (7:53.551 to 7:57.351). Duke's V8 crew followed with a narrow win over Minnesota, crossing the finish line at 6:28.757 to the Gophers' 6:30.510. The 2V8 and V4 boats both won by over eight seconds to close out the first of three racing sets at the regatta.

Duke faced a pair of ranked opponents in the afternoon slate in No. 2 Stanford and No. 17 Rutgers in addition to Michigan State. The Blue Devils finished behind the Cardinal in each race, with the V8 clocking a time of 6:33.868.

With its win in the early session, the Duke 2V8 has placed first in seven out of eight races this season.

Duke was one of four teams at Nathan Benderson Park with four or more wins on the day alongside Michigan, Stanford and Virginia.

The Blue Devils close out the regatta with four races on Saturday morning against No. 18 Tennessee, No. 20 Indiana and Minnesota. Duke's 2V4 leads the session off at 9:50 a.m. ET. Live results following each race are available at HereNOW.com.
