DURHAM, N.C. – The Blue Devil volleyball team closes out non-conference matches by traveling to Boone, N.C., to compete in the Mountaineer Classic. Duke will take on App State Sept. 19 at 6 p.m., and Davidson Sept. 20 at 4 p.m., inside the Holmes Convocation Center. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
Duke garnered a 1-1 record last weekend, earning a 3-1 triumph over Utah Valley inside Cameron Indoor Stadium Sept. 12. The Blue Devils fell to Cleveland State, 3-1, Sept. 14 inside Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, N.C., as part of the Wolfpack Invitational.
Against the Wolverines, a dominant offensive performance surged the Duke volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-8, 17-25, 25-17, 25-14) triumph over Utah Valley Friday evening inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke hit a season-best .321 attack percentage, led by efforts from sophomore outside hitter Taylor Williams with 16 terminations. Freshman attacker Olivia Wayne added to the offensive effort, as she tallied 12 putaways, while freshman setter Charlotte Glass led the Blue Devils in assists, dishing out 32 helpers. Sophomore libero Mailinh Godschall posted a match-best 13 digs while freshman middle blocker Zoë Gillen-Malveaux and Glass earned five blocks apiece.
The Vikings rallied back from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat the Blue Devils, as Cleveland State notched a season-best 52 kills and hit a season-best .210 attack percentage to surge the Vikings past the Blue Devils, 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-17), in a neutral site match as part of the Wolfpack Invitational Sunday afternoon. Williams logged a team-best 14 kills, and sophomore outside hitter Avery Hamlin added 10 terminations. Glass facilitated the offense, dishing out 35 helpers to lead Duke. On the other end of the court, Gillen-Malveaux tallied four blocks, while Godschall earned 18 digs.
A Closer Look at the Series History Against App State
Duke owns a 21-8 advantage in the all-time series and is running with a nine-match win streak. In the previous matchup between the Blue Devils and the Mountaineers, Duke earned a 3-0 sweep during the 2020 season.
Scouting the Mountaineers
The Mountaineers boast a 7-2 overall ledger, including a 1-0 record in matches played inside the Holmes Convocation Center. Maya Winterhoff leads the offense for App State with 109 kills, while Addison Heidemann has dished out a team-best 267 assists. On the defensive end of the court, MeMe Davis leads the Mountaineers with 144 digs, while Winterhoff has garnered 50 total blocks.

Duke holds a 1-0 lead in the all-time series against Davidson. The two teams last met a season ago, when the Blue Devils posted a 3-1 victory inside Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Scouting the Wildcats
The Wildcats own a 4-4 overall record, including a 1-1 ledger in neutral site matches. Elena Garcia-Guerrios surges the offense with 101 kills, while Kinsey Smith (153) and Ylame Dsamou (148) lead the team with assists. Defensively, Jordan Hummel has garnered a team-best 120 digs, and Mia Compas leads the Wildcats with 22 total blocks.
