DURHAM, N.C. – The Blue Devil volleyball team opens ACC play inside Cameron Indoor Stadium, hosting NC State Friday at 6:30 p.m. Duke then welcomes Wake Forest Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ACCNX.
Last Time Out
Duke competed in the Mountaineer Classic last Friday and Saturday, dropping matches to Appalachian State (1-3) and Davidson (1-3).
The Blue Devils dropped a 3-1 decision (25-18, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21) at App State Friday evening inside the Holmes Convocation Center to open the Mountaineer Classic. Duke and ASU were even at 15-15 in the fourth set and the Blue Devils trailed by just one at 18-17, but the Mountaineers took seven of the final 11 points to capture the match. Freshman Ashby Zubchevichled the way for the Blue Devils with a career-high 16 kills, while sophomore Taylor Williams was just behind with 15. Sophomore Mailinh Godschall paced the squad with 20 digs, while redshirt sophomore Nikki Quinn tallied a team-high 20 assists.
Duke made a late push in the fourth set, winning six straight points, but Davidson closed with the final kill to secure a 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-20) victory Saturday afternoon. Zubchevich paced the Blue Devils, matching a career-high 16 kills, while fellow freshman Olivia Wayne added 11. Quinn dished out a team-high 18 assists. Defensively, Godschall led with 14 digs and sophomore Breonna Goss notched a career-high four blocks.
A Closer Look at the Series History versus NC State
The Blue Devils hold a 70-36 advantage in the all-time series and own a 40-10 record against the Wolfpack inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke also leads the conference series record versus NC State, 52-16. In last year's matchup, NC State swept Duke, 3-0, inside Reynolds Coliseum, while the Blue Devils' most recent win came in 2023 with a 3-2 triumph inside Cameron. The series, which dates back to the 1975 season, began with Duke claiming a 2-1 victory in Raleigh.
Scouting the Wolfpack
NC State holds a 7-3 overall ledger, including a 1-1 mark on the road. The Wolfpack have totaled 473 kills, 442 assists, 70 service aces, 570 digs and 95 total blocks. Courtney Bryant leads the squad with 119 terminations and 23 aces, while Elaisa Villar has dished out a team-best 205 helpers. On the defensive side, Zuzia Maciejewicz owns a team-high 142 digs, and Talia Francom paces the team with 41 total blocks.
A Closer Look at the Series History versus Wake Forest
Duke leads the all-time series, 64-18. Last season, Duke posted two wins over Wake Forest, earning a 3-1 victory in Winston-Salem before sweeping the second meeting, 3-0, inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. The series, which dates back to 1972 when Duke won the inaugural matchup at a neutral site, has been controlled by the Blue Devils, who own a 33-4 advantage at home and a 48-13 lead in conference play.
Scouting the Demon Deacons
Wake Forest owns a 6-5 overall record, including a 2-3 mark on the road. The Demon Deacons have tallied 562 kills, 528 assists, 65 aces, 590 digs and 88.5 total blocks. Paige Crawford leads the team with 128 kills, while Becca Bellows has dished out a team-best 241 assists and Rian Baker holds the top mark in service aces with 19. On defense, Emma Farrell paces the squad with 180 digs, and Kelis Hawkins leads at the net with 47 total blocks.

The Blue Devils continue ACC play next week, facing in-state rival North Carolina twice. The first matchup is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. in Chapel Hill, followed by a showdown inside Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m.
