Rowing Ends Fall with Successful Rivanna Romp

EARLYSVILLE, Va. – The Duke rowing team concluded its fall season with a top-three finish and three more top-12 performances at the Rivanna Romp Sunday morning on the Rivanna Reservoir. The regatta featured crews from Clemson, Columbia, Louisville, Navy, Penn and host Virginia.

In the V8 race, Duke turned in its best performance of the day by placing third with a time of 13:21.9 in the 21-boat race. The boat was guided by Simone Pitre, Isabel Ruby-Hill, Phoebe Donovan, Katherine Maitland, Jessica Findlay, Katie Dukovich, Sophie Simister, Alex Stonehill and Elizabeth Horne. The squad closed the gap on the Virginia crews from the first fall race at the Princeton Chase on November 1 and also defeated Penn and Columbia, which it had lost to at the Chase.

The Blue Devils' second V8 also turned in a strong showing with a 12th-place finish with a time of 14:07.6. Duke's third V8 came in 17th (14.36.9).

The Blue Devils' top V4 boat of Pitre, Ruby-Hill, Donovan, Maitland and Findlay placed fifth, completing the 4,000-meter course in 15:03.6. Duke's second V4 also earned a top-10 finish by checking in ninth with a time of 15:25.4.

The program's fifth V4 excelled and finished third among the Blue Devil boats, claiming 20th overall (16:16.2). Duke's third V4 (16:16.8) and fourth V4 (16:28.8) rounded out the performances.

Duke now enters its winter break session and will return to the water March 19 for the Carolina Cup scrimmage in Clemson, S.C.
