DURHAM, N.C. – Duke sophomore
Ezra Mellinger has been named the ACC Men's Co-Field Performer of the Week after posting a first-place distance in the long jump at the Orange and Purple Elite Meet in Clemson, S.C., on Saturday.
In his first event of the indoor season, Mellinger recorded a personal-best distance of 7.27 meters (23-10.25 feet), which currently stands as the fifth-best in the nation and first in the ACC. The Ronks, Pa., native broke his previous best mark of 7.18m that he set as a freshman, and he maintains the fourth-best long jump in Duke indoor history.
Later in the day, Mellinger also won the 60m and 200m with times of 6.97 and 21.89 seconds, respectively, for a total of three first-place results.
This marks the first ACC Performer of the Week honor in Mellinger's career and the first weekly recognition for the Blue Devils since
Michaela Reinhart was named ACC Women's Track Performer of the Week on Jan. 29, 2020. Mellinger shares this week's honor with Georgia Tech freshman John Watkins.
Duke continues the indoor season this weekend at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. Events will begin on Friday, Jan. 15 and conclude Saturday, Jan. 16.
