DURHAM, N.C. – Duke senior
Erin Marsh has been named the ACC Women's Field Performer of the Week after winning the pentathlon at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., on Friday.
In her first appearance in the pentathlon since winning gold at the ACC Indoor Championships last February, Marsh garnered 4,185 points at Rector Field House. The total ranks first in the NCAA this indoor season and put her 404 points ahead of the second-place competitor at the Hokie Invitational. Marsh placed first in four out of the five events – 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put and long jump – and finished fifth in the 800m.
The Buford, Ga., native got her day started with a top time of 8.36 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, which stands as the 23rd-fastest mark in the NCAA and third in the ACC this season. She then recorded a PR in the high jump, clearing 1.79 meters (5-10.50 feet). That height ranks first in the conference, eighth in the nation and third all-time at Duke.
Next up was the shot put, where Marsh registered an 11.81-meter (38-9.0 feet) distance to pace the field of 10 competitors. In the long jump that followed, she posted a mark of 5.83 meters (19-1.5 feet), which goes in as 50th in the NCAA and seventh in the ACC this season.
Marsh's 4,185 point total is one shy of her career best that she recorded in her gold medal performance at the 2020 ACC meet. She is one of two student-athletes this season with top-50 NCAA marks in the women's 60m hurdles, high jump and long jump (
Tyra Gittens, Texas A&M).
She becomes the second Blue Devil to earn an ACC weekly honor this season, joining sophomore
Ezra Mellinger, who was named the ACC Men's Co-Field Performer of the Week on Jan. 13.
Duke track & field will enjoy a week off before it splits up for two meets on Feb. 5-6. Duke is slated to return to Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech Elite Meet and will also compete at the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
