CLEMSON, S.C. – Sophomore
Brynn King placed second in the women's pole vault and senior
Leigha Torino clocked a PR time in the women's mile to highlight the first day of competition at the Tiger Paw Invite.
King cleared a height of 4.01 meters (13-1.75 feet) to record her fifth top-10 placement in five pole vault appearances this season. She was one of two competitors to reach the four-meter benchmark on Friday.
Torino's career-best mile time of 4:47.29 was good for a third-place finish. She has taken third in her past two meets after running a time of 4:51.76 at the "Doc" Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet last weekend.
Senior
Erin Marsh displayed her versatility on Friday, led by a fifth-place mark of 5.29m (19-1.25) in the women's long jump. Marsh also advanced to the finals of the 60m hurdles, where she posted a time of 8.47 seconds to finish eighth.
Four Blue Devils finished in the top-15 of the women's 400m, with sophomore
Carly King running a PR time of 55.71 to pace the team at ninth place. Senior
Lauren Hoffman came in at 56.13 for 11th place, while sophomore
Jenna Crean clocked a PR 56.31 for 13th and junior
Nikki Merritt took 15th with a time of 56.65.
Sophomore
Ezra Mellinger earned his fifth top-10 result of the season in the men's long jump, posting a distance of 7.26m (23-10.0) to place seventh.
Duke is back in action on Saturday, beginning with the women's high jump that features sophomore
Elasia Campbell and freshman
Brianna Smith at 11 a.m. ET.
